This study focuses on the emotional support of empty nesters, and explores the effectiveness of the practical application of narrative therapy combined with group work methods on the study of emotional problems of empty nesters, providing a new practical path for the study of emotional support of empty nesters.Currently, the number of empty nesters is on the rise, becoming a special part of the elderly population.Among the real problems faced by the empty nesters in their daily lives, the problem of spiritual comfort is particularly prominent;in fact, emotional needs are one of the strongest needs among the spiritual needs of the empty nesters, and the unmet emotional needs and the lack of emotional support will have a certain impact on the life of the empty nesters. This study understands that the emotional needs of empty nesters include emotional cognition, emotional value, and emotional interaction, and designs a narrative group program to address these three needs. The process of constructing, deconstructing and reconstructing emotional narratives in the narrative group is centered on the basic methods of narrative therapy, and the group work program is designed through the main contents of narrating emotional narratives, externalizing problems, finding exceptions, reconstructing emotional narratives, and witnessing rituals, which help the empty nesters themselves become experts on their own emotional problems and build emotional support networks between them and their peer groups, which can help meet the emotional needs of the empty nesters and improve their life satisfaction and happiness. This is of positive significance in meeting the emotional needs of the empty nesters and improving their satisfaction and happiness in life.At the same time,a variety of narrative tools are integrated into the group work process to guide group members to deepen their narratives and enrich the tools of group activities. The study found that: first, the reconstruction of empty nesters’ own perceptions can effectively feed their own emotions.Narrative therapy can effectively help empty nesters clarify their emotional problems and become the master of their own emotional problems through the narrative process of constructing-deconstructing-reconstructing,so as to realize the feeding of their own emotions.Second, narrative groups have a positive effect on the emotional support issues of empty nesters.First, multiple narrative tools with group activity design can effectively guide the clients into the narrative state,so that the collective narrative can drive the individual narrative, and the individual narrative can find resonance in the collective narrative.Second, narrative groups can effectively build an emotional support network among the peer group of empty nesters.Third, the community plays an important role in providing emotional support for the empty nesters. As the community is the field where the empty nesters live, the community’s attention to the empty nesters and its understanding and satisfaction of their emotional needs can largely provide emotional support for the empty nesters and help them achieve a happy life in their old age in a familiar living environment.
