After the occurrence of major emergencies, the convenience of the Internet and the popularity of mobile terminals make it possible for people to obtain information about the events more diversified and faster, but the authenticity and accuracy of the information face challenges. The new coronavirus outbreak is a public health emergency caused by a novel coronavirus, and its online public opinion is continuously evolving with the involvement of various factors in cyberspace. If not properly guided,it will easily lead to fear, doubt and uncertainty among the public,so it is necessary to capture public opinion and make early warnings in a timely manner.Along with the continuous changes of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia, the evolution of its online public opinion may show certain regularity. In this paper,we firstly compile a study of the evolutionary characteristics of online public opinion on public emergencies and propose a hypothesis on the relationship between the development of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia and online public opinion based on relevant theories;secondly, based on the text data of China News Network,we use the TF-IDF algorithm,LDA model, and Snow NLP sentiment analysis to study the temporal evolutionary characteristics of online public opinion on the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia by combining the life cycle theory;finally,we use the fixed panel model and spatial econometric model are used to explore the influence mechanism and spatial spillover effect analysis of the online public opinion on the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia. Finally, the following conclusions are drawn.First of all, based on word frequency analysis,we found that during the outbreak period of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia, there is a spurt of information, mixed true and false information,so the hot topics reported focus on experts’ views on the epidemic and how to take personal protection;during the fluctuation period, the topics focus on the effectiveness of anti-epidemic and the resumption of production and work in various social industries;during the receding period, when the epidemic gradually subsides, the topics In the receding period, when the epidemic gradually subsides, the topics are focused on vaccination and construction development, etc.Secondly, based on the Baidu index panel data, the study finds that: in general, the development of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia will significantly increase the online public opinion index;in some regions such as the higher level of economic development, the greater investment in medical resources and the greater number of Internet users, the development of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia will continuously intensify online public opinion, while in other regions the above characteristics do not exist, indicating that the event itself does not necessarily lead to high online public opinion, and some large number of inaccurate reports need to be controlled. Finally,in terms of the spatial spillover effect of online public opinion,a two-way fixed spatial Durbin model was used to find that the development of the new crown epidemic not only affects online public opinion of the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia in the region, but also influences online public opinion in neighboring regions through its spatial spillover effect. In addition, the social media views represented by news reports have a large and significant impact on the public opinion index in both the total and indirect effects.Based on the findings, this paper proposes four policy recommendations or insights:(1)focus on the turning point of public opinion and strengthen the ability of government information disclosure;(2)strengthen the construction of social platforms and curb the spread of inaccurate information;(3)give full play to the advantages of the media and correctly guide online public opinion;(4)purify the space of online platforms and improve the media literacy of netizens.
