The report of the 20thNational Congress of the Communist Party of China pointed out that,in the new journey of accelerating the modernization of education,it is necessary to cultivate new people of the era who assume the great responsibility of national rejuvenation. It emphasized the promotion of students’all-round development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetic view, labor, and the cultivation of students’patriotic feelings, social responsibility, innovative spirit and practical ability. As socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era and tourism is deeply integrated with the information industry, the new environment of tourism industry has put forward new requirements for the key competences of employees. As universities are the cradle of cultivating talents for industries,it is quite necessary and urgent to analyze the key competences of undergraduates majoring in tourism management.Through research methods including literature research,Delphi method, analytic hierarchy process(AHP)and questionnaire survey, the paper revises and forms a system framework of key competences of undergraduates majoring in tourism management, which is composed of 4 first-level indicators,14 second-level indicators and 47 third-level indicators. The weight of each indicator was measured using the method of analytic hierarchy process(AHP),and key indicators were extracted to construct the evaluation model and design questionnaire.By conducting empirical research, the result of the questionnaire shows that the key competences of undergraduates majoring in tourism management are good on the whole. For specific indicators, ideal literacy and personality literacy ranks high, while knowledge literacy and ability literacy ranks relatively low.It is suggested that the government guidance, university leadership, industry cooperation and student action should be integrated to form a joint educational force from macro to medium to micro level,so as to effectively promote the cultivation process of key competences of undergraduates majoring in tourism management. In view of the asymmetry between the weight and score of indicators, differentiated improvement strategies need to be adopted.Meanwhile,in order to satisfy the needs of undergraduate with different demographic characteristics, such as gender, grade and place of origin, setting up different teaching objectives and tasks are needed during the cultivation of key competences,so as to achieve balanced improvement of key competences of undergraduates majoring in tourism management. There are two innovation points in this paper.First, innovation of research perspective.Compared with basic education, the filed of Chinese higher education pays less attention to students’key competences. This paper leads the concept of key competence into the field of higher education, analyzes the new requirements of talents adapting to the development of tourism industry in the new era, which can provide reference for the innovation of educational concepts, the improvement of teaching quality and the meeting of industry demands.Second, innovation in research methods.Through methods of literature research,Delphi method and analytic hierarchy process, indicators composing the system of key competences of undergraduates majoring in tourism management are extracted,as well as the indicators’weight.According to the key indicators, the evaluation model was constructed and the questionnaire was designed. The paper analyzed the results based on the score of indicators and weight comparison and demographic difference.
