Some problems in science and technology,economy,environment and other aspects faced by the current society are highly complex and comprehensive,and it is difficult to rely on a single discipline to solve,so it is necessary for universities to cultivate high-quality interdisciplinary talents with multidisciplinary knowledge to solve these problems.As the highest level of degree education,graduate education plays an important role in cultivating high-level innovative talents and serving economic development.Therefore,each country attaches more and more importance to the training of graduate students,and the trend of graduate education is changing from disciplinary mode to interdisciplinary mode.The United States,as the first country to implement interdisciplinary postgraduate training,has formed a relatively complete training mechanism,and research universities are the key bases for interdisciplinary postgraduate training funded by the federal government.Therefore,this study studies the interdisciplinary graduate training mechanism of American research universities.Try to solve the problems in the process of interdisciplinary graduate cultivating and perfect the mechanism of graduate cultivating.This study uses literature analysis,historical research and case study to study the interdisciplinary graduate training mechanism of American research universities.The study found the following:Firstly,the interdisciplinary graduate training mechanism of American research universities has the following problems in the actual training of interdisciplinary graduate students: The lack of interdisciplinary culture,the limitation of the traditional organization form of a single discipline to the cultivation of interdisciplinary graduate students,the limitation of the traditional academic reward mechanism,the lack of interdisciplinary academic recognition mechanism,the lack of leaders and the instability of interdisciplinary faculty,the lack of their own sense of belonging,the lack of funds and easy to be occupied.Secondly,to solve the above problems,American research universities actively take reform measures,which are mainly manifested as: cultivating interdisciplinary culture and creating a good interdisciplinary environment;The establishment of an independent interdisciplinary organization to ensure the autonomy of interdisciplinary graduate training;Improve the interdisciplinary system,protect the rights and interests of interdisciplinary teachers,strengthen the support of leaders;Innovating the way of teacher appointment,ensuring the stability of interdisciplinary teachers and enhancing the sense of belonging of teachers;Multi-channel financial support to ensure stable and sufficient funds.Thirdly,the following reflections can be made on the cultivation mechanism of interdisciplinary graduate students in American research universities: renew the concept of interdisciplinary education and create an excellent interdisciplinary ecological environment;Focus on the construction of top-level design,strengthen government support and guidance;Optimize the supporting management system,set up a special responsible department;We will establish a sound guarantee mechanism and provide comprehensive and steady support.
