| The majority of teenagers are middle school students,who are highly valued by society and schools.Middle school students in their adolescence are undergoing significant changes in their physical and mental well-being.In the contemporary social culture that advocates thinness as beauty,teenagers with unstable psychological activity,incomplete cognitive structure,and asynchronous physiological and psychological maturity are prone to dissatisfaction with their own bodies.For example,under the influence of mass media,contemporary society is popular with women’s bony beauty and thin ideals,while men are strong and robust.Images of thin beauty on major websites impact people’s perspectives.Therefore,many middle school students are influenced by social media,and even if they have reached social physical standards,they still feel physically defective,resulting in physical shame and guilt.This situation has attracted the attention of foreign scholars and has conducted some research on body appreciation in order to enhance people’s physical satisfaction through methods.At present,research on body appreciation in China is still in its infancy.Therefore,this study focuses on the psychological health of middle school students,selecting 633 middle school students from a middle school in Jinggangshan City,Jiangxi Province as the research subjects.From the perspective of positive body imagery,it explores the relationship between self-esteem,self compassion,and body appreciation among middle school students,examines the mediating role of self compassion in the relationship between self-esteem and body appreciation,and intervenes in self compassion to enhance body appreciation based on this.Study 1used the Self Esteem Scale,Self Compassion Scale,and Body Appreciation Scale to measure participants,examining the relationship between self-esteem and body appreciation among middle school students,and whether self compassion had a mediating role in this relationship;Study 2 is a group counseling intervention study.Based on Study 1,two groups of participants(experimental group 47 and control group 49)were selected,and a group counseling intervention with the theme of enhancing self compassion among middle school students was conducted to investigate whether the group counseling intervention with the theme of enhancing self compassion can increase the physical appreciation level of middle school students.The specific results are as follows:(1)There is a pairwise correlation between self-esteem,self compassion,and physical appreciation among junior high school students.(2)Self esteem can positively predict physical appreciation among middle school students.(3)The mediating effect test shows that self compassion plays a mediating role in self-esteem and body appreciation.(4)Group counseling activities targeting middle school students with the theme of enhancing self compassion can significantly enhance their level of self compassion,thereby promoting their level of physical appreciation. |
