Self-esteem is a kind of positive cognitive evaluation of the individual’s own value, and a positive emotional experience in the process of constant pursuit of self value. A large number of studies have demonstrated that high self-esteem has a more positive mood, higher life satisfaction, less anxiety, depression and helplessness than low self-esteem. Therefore, self-esteem is one of the important factors that affect individual mental health. After measuring the self-esteem of 821 students, it is found that the self-esteem level of the students is relatively low. Based on previous studies, this study explored the effect of group counseling on the level of secondary vocational students’ self-esteem, in order to provide practical help and suggestions for the mental health development and vocational education.In this study, a large scale investigation on the level of self-esteem of the secondary vocational school students is carried out to understand the development level of the secondary vocational school students. Before group counseling, 36 students were divided into three groups:experimental group 1, experimental group 2 and control group, 3 groups were tested by "The self-Esteem Scale". There were no significant differences between the 1 groups and the control group. The 8 groups were treated with 2 groups. The control group was treated with two groups without any treatment. After the group was over, the data were evaluated.Research results show that:1. group counseling has a significant effect on improving the self-esteem level of secondary vocational school students. The students inthe 1 groups have significant differences in self-esteem level after group counseling.2. the main factors that affect the level of self-esteem in the secondary vocational school students are family factors(parent child relationship, family structure, family economy and only child, etc.),school factors(academic performance, whether class cadres, etc.) and individual factors(appearance, age and self concept of the definition,etc.).3.the group counseling program used in this study is feasible and can be used as the intervention program of the level of secondary vocational students’ self-esteem.
