| Local geography curriculum resources play an important role in promoting the development of students’ core literacy in geography and their ability to solve geographic problems.The General Senior Secondary Geography Curriculum Standards(2017Edition Revised 2020)require students to use what they have learnt to closely relate to their life experiences in concrete and authentic contexts,to identify and solve geographical problems,and to learn geography that will be useful to them throughout their lives.The resources of the vernacular geography curriculum are derived from students’ living environment and enable them to transfer their knowledge,abilities and emotions from the geographical environment and geographical phenomena around them.At the same time,the use of vernacular geography curriculum resources to assist high school geography teaching can further enrich geography teaching methods and enhance the effectiveness of geography classroom teaching.As vernacular geography curriculum resources are closer to students,they are conducive to the development of extra-curricular practical activities,thus cultivating students’ geography practicality.Therefore,the practical research on the use of vernacular geography curriculum resources to assist in the teaching of high school geography is of great significance.This thesis uses fieldwork and other methods to collect and develop local geographic resources in Hezheng County as curriculum resources to support high school geography teaching.Contextual cognitive theory,constructivist learning theory and "life education" theory are established as the theoretical foundations.Based on the geography curriculum standards,the geography curriculum resources of Hezheng County are integrated into the Hunan Education Press version of the high school geography textbook through a table.The principles and strategies of teaching high school geography with the help of local geography curriculum resources are explained in the context of the geography curriculum and the requirements of the new standards.The focus is on the application of vernacular geography curriculum resources in classroom teaching and extra-curricular practical activities.Based on the content of the Hunan Education Press version of the high school geography textbook,a case study of the teaching of high school geography assisted by local geography curriculum resources is designed,and the teaching practice and teaching evaluation and reflection are completed through the case study method and classroom observation method.This thesis concludes that there are abundant resources in Hezheng County that can be used to supplement the teaching of high school geography,including its unique geographical location,typical temperate continental monsoon climate,the remarkable vertical zonality of the Taizi Mountain Nature Reserve,rich ancient animal fossil resources,and unique regional culture.The teaching of high school geography can be supplemented by designing as introduction of vernacular elements,vernacular case studies,research activities and social surveys.The practical process promotes the connection between geographical knowledge and real life through the creation of vernacular contexts,and cultivates students’ integrated thinking and regional cognition by combining the exploration of vernacular cases.By designing activities such as examining the surrounding geographical environment and investigating the layout of industries,students develop their geographical practical skills and their ability to transfer and apply their knowledge.In the process of analysing the interactions between human activities and the environment of their hometowns,students develop a harmonious view of people and place.The use of vernacular geography curriculum resources to support the teaching of high school geography is therefore useful and effective.Finally,suggestions are made for the better use of vernacular geography curriculum resources to assist in the teaching of high school geography. |
