In recent years,mathematics calculation ability has been paid more and more attention,and the proportion of the problems related to mathematics calculation in the examination papers is quite large.Therefore,the cultivation of students’ mathematics calculation ability needs more attention in the mathematics teaching of the whole middle school stage.The eighth grade is the key period for cultivating the junior middle school students’ mathematics calculation ability,because the eighth grade itself is a transitional stage of the junior middle school.Therefore,this article carries on the investigation to eighth grade student’s mathematics calculation ability present situation,and proposes some teaching strategies.This research mainly uses the literature method,the questionnaire method,the interview method and the data analysis method,has discussed the eighth grade student’s mathematics calculation ability present situation.Based on the analysis of the existing literature and the opinions of the teachers,a set of math calculation ability test papers(including five dimensions: extraction and mining of topic information,correct application of formulas and rules,simplification of calculation process or steps,correct results,understanding of arithmetic algorithm)and questionnaires are designed,as well as teacher interviews and student interviews.Then the investigation is carried out and the data is sorted out and analyzed.Finally,according to the results of the analysis,the strategy of cultivating the eighth grade students’ mathematical calculation ability is put forward.Based on the statistics and analysis of the examination papers and questionnaires,the following conclusions were reached: 176 students reached Level I(Understanding)and Grid,with a passing rate of 61.53%;149 students reached Level II(Mastery)and Grid,with a passing rate of 52.09%;136students reached Level III(Application)and Grid,with a passing rate of 44.06%;31students reached Level IV(Innovation)and Grid,with a passing rate of 10.84%.Therefore,we can draw the following conclusions:(1)The eighth grade students’ knowledge comprehension ability develops well,but the ability of mastering and applying mathematics calculation knowledge needs to be improved,and the innovation ability in mathematics calculation knowledge is still lacking.(2)The students’ understanding of the mathematical calculation objects is not enough to extract and mine the hidden information from the questions;(3)The students’ understanding of the arithmetic algorithms is not deep enough,and they cannot choose the correct rules in the process of solving the problems;(4)The students’ thinking of solving problems is solidified,and their mathematical ideas and methods are not well grasped and can not be applied flexibly;and(5)There are certain problems in the students’ calculation strategies and calculation habits,and they are afraid of difficulties in mathematics calculation and lack of self-confidence.Based on the analysis of problems and interviews with teachers and students,this paper puts forward several methods for improving students’ mathematical calculation ability:(1)Clarifying calculation objects and deeply understanding mathematical concepts;(2)Attaching importance to the understanding and teaching of arithmetic and algorithm;(3)Attaching importance to the application and infiltration of mathematical thinking methods;(4)Accurately grasping the teaching requirements of mathematical calculation;(5)enhance students ’emotional belief in mathematical operation;and(6)cultivate students’ good mathematical operation habits.
