On July 25,2010,President Xi Jinping made the famous “Roots,Soul and Dream”statement in his speech at the opening ceremony of the “Journey to China’s Roots”summer camp for Chinese youth at home and abroad. He said,“The united Chinese nation is the common ‘root’ of Chinese children at home and abroad, the profound Chinese culture is the common ‘soul’ of Chinese children at home and abroad, and the realization of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is the common‘dream’ of Chinese children at home and abroad.” In overseas Chinese education,Malaysia’s Chinese education system is complete and widely influenced, especially the development of its Chinese higher education is particularly noteworthy.Looking back at the development of Chinese higher education in Malaysia,it can be seen that internationalization has always been an important driver of its development. So,what is the relationship between the internationalization process and the development of Chinese higher education in Malaysia? What is the development history of Chinese higher education in Malaysia in the process of internationalization? How should the cooperation between China and Malaysia in the field of Chinese higher education be further deepened in the context of “One Belt,One Road” ? With these questions in mind, this paper intends to study the development of Chinese higher education in Malaysia in the process of internationalization. This thesis takes the process of internationalization as the baseline and adopts the methods of documentary research, historical analysis and comparative analysis to divide the development process of Chinese higher education in Malaysia into the stumbling stage under the genesis of internationalization, the rapid growth stage under the construction of internationalization, and the innovation and change stage under the deepening of internationalization. In the initial stage,Chinese higher education in Malaysia emerged as a result of the Chinese “study abroad” crisis. The focus of Chinese higher education in this period was on the establishment of Chinese universities, but the development was slowed down by the nationalist politics.During the growth phase, the three private Chinese higher education institutions in Malaysia, namely Southern College,New Era College and Han River College, were successfully established with the help of favorable internationalization policies, and Malaysian Chinese higher education has fully leveraged on internationalization resources to achieve its own development during this phase. At the stage of innovation and change, the development of Chinese higher education in Malaysia has also seen new changes along with the formation of a new development pattern of internationalization, focusing on the establishment of the Malaysian branch of Xiamen University driven by the trend of “bringing in” higher education, and the internationalization of three local private Chinese higher education institutions driven by the trend of “going out” higher education, which has opened up a new direction of development in the process of deep integration of Chinese higher education in Malaysia. Finally, the “One Belt,One Road” initiative has brought unprecedented new opportunities for deepening cooperation between Chinese and Malaysian higher education,in terms of paving the way for a new pattern of ChinaMalaysia educational cooperation, promoting the spread of the concept of multicultural coexistence, and further enhancing the Chinese cultural identity of the Chinese diaspora.Under the “One Belt,One Road” initiative, the deepening cooperation between Chinese higher education in Malaysia and China needs to strengthen and promote people-topeople exchanges and contact, and build a deeper cooperation mechanism between Chinese higher education in Malaysia and China;give full play to the power of Chinese overseas to enrich the resource reserve of Chinese higher education in Malaysia;strengthen demand-oriented and practical cooperation in response to the “knotty”problems in the development of Chinese higher education in Malaysia.
