In the process of dealing with colonialism and post-colonialism,centralization,industrialization and modernization in the 20 th century,Malaysia developed higher education to meet the needs of social and economic construction,and strived to build Malaysia into a“regional education hub”inAsia,and constantly ranked among the leaders in the internationalization of higher education.Under the background of the “One Belt,One Road ” higher education multilateral cooperation and exchange,this paper follows the method of unification of history and logic to explore the reform of Malaysian higher education mode.Based on the analysis of the common factors in Southeast Asia and the local personality environment in Malaysia,with the completion of the University of Kuala Lumpur in 1959 as the origin,Malaysia entered the stage of comprehensive Malayization marked by the “5·13” ethnic conflict in 1969,and in 1990 the Malaysian government terminated the new economic policy characterized by Malays' priority.After defining the main time points of change,the transformation of the Malaysian higher education mode was divided into the English mode(1959-1968)and the Malay mode(1969-1989)and the Neoliberal mode(1990-1998)is a three-stage process that sorts out the meaning and characteristics of the higher education mode at each stage and describes the main content of this transformation process.In addition,it discusses the motivation and basic law of the reform of higher education mode from the two levels of concept and practice,and realizes that the government,society and colleges play an important role in the reform of higher education mode,which is manifested in the change of political system and economic system.The change of the value orientation of higher education and its actual contradictions and conflicts,and the education system and mechanism cannot meet the needs of social and economic development.Finally,summarizing the basic themes of Malaysia's higher education development process,in order to construct a higher education mode with Malaysian characteristics that meets the needs of social development,it is necessary to realize that there are overlaps in various modes,and to deal with ethnic politics and equal opportunities in higher education.The contradiction between the state and the trend of globalization,university autonomy and government control.
