Empathy has two-sided functions, including empathy healing and empathy harm.Previous studies have focused on the positive attributes of empathy, and emphasized to promote group integration and interpersonal communication, and stimulate individual prosocial behavior by improving the ability of adolescents to empathize. However,it ignores the hyper-empathy group with high sensitivity, they tend to have difficulties in suppressing excessive empathy for others’ emotions, and easy to suffer from negative emotions, which is easy to cause emotional pressure and empathy damage, causing mental health problems and deviant behavior. The development of empathy has an important impact on the formation and evolution of adolescent emotional problems, adolescents’ emotional management ability is still in the process of development, adolescents with super-empathy characteristics are difficult to rely on self-regulation to get rid of negative emotions. This study takes the group of hyper-empathetic adolescents who need to improve their emotional management ability as the research object, intends to sort out the problem model of emotional management ability of adolescents with hyper-empathy through systematic review and literature review from the perspective of the development of emotion and empathy ability, further determine that the malleable mediators in the program model are emotional assessment and expression ability, emotional regulation ability and emotional application ability. This group intervention study, guided by the theory of emotional intelligence and rational emotive therapy, was carried out to explore the changes in emotional management ability of hyper-empathetic adolescents before and after participating in the group service. The study discovered that, firstly, social group work had a significant intervention effect on the emotion management skills of the hyper-empathetic adolescents, the intervention group participants’ ability to manage their emotions substantially improved, while there was no radical change in the emotion management skills of the control group participants.Secondly, emotional intelligence was a key mediator in helping hyper-empathetic adolescents improve their ability to manage their emotions.Improving the adolescents’ emotion rating and expression, emotion regulation, and emotion application skills had a greater impact on improving their ability to manage emotions.Thirdly, the results of the follow-up evaluation showed that the group participants retained what they had learned, applied it to their lives, and improved their practical emotion management abilities one month after the program’s conclusion.Fourthly, the group of hyper-empathic adolescents is widespread,it is essential to provide them support and positive attention while also looking into strategies to assist them balance their empathic talents, lessen empathic harm, increase empathic healing, and promote prosocial behavior.Fifthly, adolescents have the demand to improve their emotional management skills, while there are less avenues and opportunities for them to obtain related services,it is necessary to strengthen the emphasis of educating teenagers about emotional management skills in families, schools, and communities. In addition to serving as a useful professional practice and exploration of adolescent social work, this project also offers reference data for intervention research in this area.
