With the increasingly close connection between different regions of the world, countries pay more and more attention to the hot issue of international relations, and the history of international relations is also an important part of the teaching of world history. At present, there are few studies on the teaching of the history of international relations, taking the unified compilation of high school history textbooks as an example.Guiding students to understand and think about the evolution of the history of international relations from the perspective of geopolitical theory not only enriches the content and form of the history of international relations teaching, but also helps to cultivate students’ concept of time and space and expand students’ international vision. On the basis of sorting out the geopolitical theory and its development process, this paper summarizes three elements from the perspective of geopolitical theory: position, power and globalization.Through questionnaire survey and teacher interview, this paper analyzes the degree of high school students’ mastery of the history of international relations and the application of geopolitical theory in the history of international relations, and finds that there are three kinds of problems in the teaching of history of international relations in high school: first, some teachers have little understanding of interdisciplinary knowledge;Secondly, some students’ basic knowledge of the history of international relations is weak;Third, the use of teaching resources is inadequate. The reasons for the formation of these three kinds of problems also correspond to three aspects: First, teachers receive less interdisciplinary knowledge no matter in the stage of education or work;Secondly, the content of the history of international relations in the unified compilation of high school history textbooks is relatively scattered,so the students grasp the basic knowledge is relatively scattered;Thirdly, teachers do not fully explore some teaching resources in the teaching process. In view of the above problems, the author puts forward the relevant teaching principles and the basic requirements of teaching and learning, including the principle of objectivity, the principle of appropriateness, the principle of student subject; The teaching strategies include cultivating students’ core qualities from the perspective of geopolitics, integrating teaching resources and carrying out thematic teaching. Finally, based on the above teaching principles, basic requirements and strategies, the teaching design is carried out with the theme of "International Relations in the Post-Cold War Era".The application of geopolitical perspective in the teaching of the history of international relations in senior high school can lead students to connect with non-historical subjects such as geography and current politics in the process of history knowledge learning,so that students can view and analyze the relevant contents of the history of international relations from a comprehensive and diversified perspective. It can also cultivate students’ core quality of history and implement the relevant requirements of history curriculum standards.
