Children have been being a neglected group in historical studies,and nowadays children are receiving increasing attentions from all sectors of society.Since the horizons of the historical community have shifted downwards,children’s history is gradually gaining attention.Besides,there are many references to children’s history scattered throughout junior history textbooks.Applying children’s history to junior high school history teaching,guiding students to explore the historical phenomena and historical issues reflected behind the living conditions and spirituality of their peers in history,not only enriches the teaching content,aligns with the frontiers of historical research and helps students understand the whole picture of history,but also guides them to pay attention to real-life issues and cultivate their humanistic sentiments.To study the application of children’s history in junior high school history teaching,it is necessary to clarify the connotations of children and children’s history at first,then to identify the research objects of children’s history teaching,and finally to explain the research value of applying children’s history to junior high school history teaching,so as to pave the way for the start of research.Accordingly,the parts of children’s history and junior high school history teaching that fit together will be sorted out.Firstly,based on the psychological development and learning characteristics of junior high school students,it can be concluded that the application of children’s history in teaching is suitable for junior high school students.Secondly,the application of children’s history to the teaching of junior high school history is analyzed in terms of the curriculum philosophy and implementation recommendations in the curriculum standards;Lastly,to collate the contents of the assessment systems of Secondary Examination in eight regions involving the history of children.In order to understand the current situation of applying children’s history in junior high school history classes,interviews and questionnaires were conducted respectively with teachers and students in one area of Zibo City,Shandong Province.Through the investigation of students’ interests in children’s history,the application of children’s history in history teaching and students’ learning expectations,it was found that there were some problems with the current application of children’s history in junior high school history teaching,which were teachers’ failures to pay timely attention to new achievements in history,the lack of interest in history lessons,the limitations of teaching tasks and the relatively homogeneous curriculum resources.In response to the problems discovered in the research,combined with specific teaching cases,this paper proposes implementation strategies for the application of children’s history in junior high school history teaching from the perspectives of paying attention to the forefront of history,exploring history curriculum resources,cultivating core competencies in the history discipline,and conducting interdisciplinary themed learning activities.Eventually,Lesson 20 of Book 5,The First Industrial Revolution,was selected as a case study of the application of children’s history to junior secondary history teaching,and a thematic lesson on The Darkness Beneath the Boom: The Industrial Revolution from the Perspective of Britain’s Child Labour Problem was designed.The study finds that using children’s history as an entry point for history teaching is conducive to increasing students’ interests in learning history and broadening their horizons in history study,as well as providing front-line teachers with new ideas for teaching.
