With the rapid development of artificial intelligence technology,in order to meet the needs of the times of social development,the state is paying more and more attention to artificial intelligence education in primary and secondary schools.2022 compulsory education information technology curriculum standards were released,which also provides an important reference basis for the teaching of artificial intelligence modules.However,AI education in junior high schools is still in the preliminary exploration stage,and faces many difficulties in the process of curriculum development and implementation.Through questionnaires and interviews,this study found that the current AI teaching at the junior high school level has problems such as boring classroom teaching,insufficient learning resources,more difficult knowledge to master and less class time.The ARCS(Attention,Relevance,Confidence and Satisfaction)model of motivation is an instructional design model that is widely used in the field of education and teaching.The model contains four levels of attention,relevance,confidence and satisfaction,which represent the four main types of motivation strategies around which instruction can be designed to well motivate students’ learning.The main research work of this paper is as follows:1.Analyzed the background and current research status of AI education and ARCS motivation model in the field of education and teaching in primary and secondary schools at home and abroad through literature research method and survey research method,and thus determined the research purpose and significance of this study.The motivation and teaching status of the eighth grade students’ learning of AI-related knowledge were analyzed to provide feasibility analysis and reference basis for the smooth development of the study.2.Based on the 2022 compulsory education IT curriculum standards,design the teaching objectives,contents and motivation strategies of the middle school AI module based on the ARCS motivation model.3.To carry out teaching practice in three eighth grade classes of a middle school in Zhangjiakou,to apply the motivation strategy to the teaching of middle school AI curriculum,and to continuously improve the teaching strategy and optimize the teaching design through action research.4.The SPSS software was used to compare the students’ learning motivation levels before and after the teaching practice in the three classes to analyze whether there was a significant difference in the students’ learning motivation levels before and after the teaching,and to summarize the research of this paper.Through the teaching practice,it was found that there was a significant difference in the level of learning motivation among the three teaching practice classes in the paired sample t-test before and after the teaching practice.The analysis of the effect of teaching practice also concluded that the students’ learning quality and motivation levels were somewhat improved.Therefore,it can be concluded that the ARCS motivation model has a facilitating effect on motivating middle school students to learn artificial intelligence.This project proposes new ideas for teaching AI modules from the perspective of learning motivation,based on the 2022 edition of the compulsory education IT curriculum standards and based on the ARCS motivation model.It provides heuristic guidance for carrying out middle school AI education,has some reference value in the teaching design of middle school AI modules,and plays a role in promoting AI education.
