In the Chinese education reform in recent years,the whole book reading is the focus of the new curriculum reform,more and more Chinese educators attach importance to it.The whole book reading teaching in senior high school is helpful to improve students’ reading level,Chinese literacy and the teaching status of emphasizing knowledge over ability.The reading of the whole book is the first of the 18 learning tasks in the Chinese Curriculum Standards for Ordinary Senior High Schools(2017 Edition,2020 Revision).The textbooks compiled by the Ministry of Education sets the reading unit of the whole book reading,and The Dream of the Red Chamber is prominently listed.Taking The Dream of the Red Chamber as a case study,it is of great practical value to discuss how to carry out reading teaching of the whole book in senior high school.Therefore,based on literature research,through the investigation and interview of high school teachers and students,and combined with case analysis of the teaching status of reading the whole book of The Dream of the Red Chamber,extracting the existing problems and exploring targeted and operable strategies.The paper consists of introduction,text and conclusion.The text is divided into four chapters:The first chapter is the whole book reading overview of The Dream of the Red Chamber in the high school Chinese.Firstly,it analyzes the value of reading The Dream of the Red Chamber to middle school students from four aspects: language,structure,knowledge and culture.Secondly,summarize the contents of the the whole book reading unit of The Dream of the Red Chamber,which is compiled by the Ministry of Education for senior high school Chinese,and expound the teaching objectives of reading the whole book of The Dream of the Red Chamber with the combination of teaching materials and curriculum standards.The second chapter is based on the investigation of reading teaching status of the whole book of The Dream of the Red Chamber,refining the existing problems.312 students and teachers from three high schools were investigated by questionnaire and interview.Through the survey,the main problems of students are low interest in reading,low efficiency,lack of planning and problem awareness.Teachers have some shortcomings such as neglecting ability cultivation,reading method and guidance mode.In view of the problems existing in reading teaching of the whole book of The Dream of the Red Chamber,this paper puts forward the corresponding strategies,and presents them layer by layer through teaching practice.The third chapter mainly around the teaching and learning practice,emphasis on independent reading,character analysis,theme refining ability raise strategy,and grasp the students’ emotion in the teaching process and guide students to establish correct values,and finally put forward the corresponding evaluation strategy,strive to The Dream of the Red Chamber the whole book reading teaching the objectivity of evaluation results.According to the strategies proposed in Chapter 3,chapter 4 designs teaching activities by selecting reading guidance,character image analysis and theme extraction,and carries out teaching practice in the form of teacher-student interaction and group cooperation.Although the whole book reading has been continuously discussed and practiced since it was proposed in the Chinese curriculum standards in 2017,a scientific and complete whole book reading teaching system has not yet been formed in high school Chinese teaching.Taking The Dream of the Red Chamber as a case to illustrate the problems,strategies and practices of reading the whole book,although not mature,it should be helpful to enrich and perfect the teaching system of reading the whole book in senior high school.
