Nowadays, with the acceleration of China’s aging, the adjustment of fertility policy and the increase of pressure on the younger generation, the proportion of intergenerational education in China’s family education gradually exceeds that of parent-child education. It is undeniable that intergenerational education has effectively alleviated family pressure, but at the same time, there are also problems such as excessive doting and over protection of children by grandparents. As an effective supplement to parent-child education, intergenerational education has both advantages and disadvantages. How to give full play to the advantages of intergenerational education, overcome its negative effects and promote the healthy growth of children has become a major issue of great concern to the society.Based on the main group of grandparents, this paper explores new ways to improve the parenting ability of grandparents and promote them to play a better auxiliary role.Combined with the results of the field survey, workers designed a questionnaire on intergenerational parenting to understand the problems existing in the grandparents of J community in intergenerational parenting and evaluate their needs. The survey found that the grandparents of J community generally have problems such as lack of early education consciousness, improper parenting methods, lack of effective communication skills, deviation in the orientation of parenting role and so on.On the one hand, due to the restrictions of traditional ideas and educational level, the grandparents "pay more attention to upbringing than education" in the process of child rearing, resulting in the lack of independence of children, which is not conducive to the growth and development of children. On the other hand, due to the lack of necessary family support, the absence of parents and the offside of grandparents, the family boundaries are not clear, family members have differences in education, and exacerbate the internal contradictions of family members. The phenomenon of intergenerational education is becoming more and more common and has become an objective way of family education. The absence of parental education has a great impact on children’s growth and development.Based on this, this paper takes Eriksson’s eight stage theory, empowerment theory and social learning theory as the support, adopts the methods and skills of group work, selects homogeneous groups, constructs a "intergenerational education" mutual assistance platform in the form of group activities, gives play to the role of workers in encouraging and guiding, linking learning resources, and stimulates the example and leading role of peer groups,Promote their mutual communication, learning and self exploration, solve their grandparents’ confusion in parenting, reduce pressure, and improve their parenting ability. Finally, through the two evaluation methods of team member evaluation and worker evaluation,it is found that the intervention of team work has a positive effect on improving the parenting ability of grandparents. Finally, through summary and reflection, workers found that the problem of intergenerational parenting is caused by many reasons.Starting from grandparents is only one aspect of solving the problem of intergenerational parenting. In order to truly solve the problem of intergenerational parenting, families, communities and society need to work together to provide a good learning environment for grandparents. This study hopes to provide a reference working method for solving the problem of intergenerational parenting, and provide experience for group work to improve the parenting ability of grandparents.
