With the rapid development of domestic machinery manufacturing industry and the growing methods for machining, cutting tools used in machining are variations in sort, structure and shape. It is difficult to express cutting tools' structure accurately in two-dimensional engineer drawings. Therefore, by terms of the machine tool design process, we can change the parameter's variable value while creating machine tools' 3d-models through secondary development technology. It's a maturely technology today. Afterward, we can use CAE software to analyze the models for the sake of forecasting the cutting force, heat and duration. That can help us optimizing the geometry parameters and cutting parameters.According to the cutting tools' design requirements of making hole in box parts for special-processing machine tool which Pushen-NingJiang Machine Tool Group Co., Ltd., has proposed, the author proposes the solution of "Special Machine Tool Cutter Design Intelligent CAD system" on the basis of mastering SolidWorks secondary development technology. The solution is such an intelligent CAD system that it has a wizard-based interactive interface, integrates two expert systems to optimize geometric parameters and cutting parameters, and uses 3D parametric design methods to create models, and forecast cutting force base on FEM analysis. This dissertation mainly discusses the modeling process of 3D parametric cutters designs with SolidWorks base on the secondary development technology. The principal tasks are as follows:1.With the development of manufacturing sector and CAD technology, this dissertation discusses cutters CAD system's research background, and proposes solution for the enterprise's requirements;2. By the terms of structure characteristics of special machine-processing cutters(boring cutter, reamer, drill and combination cutting tools), using CBR technology, Visual C + + language create model by parameters and components assembly through secondary development platform based on SolidWorks; 3. Based on relations of solid model and engineering drawings in SolidWorks, achieving the two-way drive dimension between them, and setting configurations of engineering drawings for enterprise standardization requirements, and developing some functions.4. Improved design documents' storage, modification, plotting, design directory information, such as BOM output;5.Add part to the standard parts library; technical requirements, such as the materials, to facilitate the establishment of complete drawing information.The development of this software not only meets enterprise's requirements (rapid, efficient and intelligent) for cutting tool design of special machine tool, but also achieves CAD's development from 2D to 3D, and get ready for farther research on CAE of cutters.
