With the national energy saving task is proposed, the energy consumption gets more and more attention. The belt conveyor system is the world’s most cost-effective bulk solid material handling system. Due to the huge number of its material handling, the belt conveyor system’s efficiency, life, running stability, energy consumption and cost are got a lot of attention. The energy optimization of belt conveyor system has become one of the directions of the belt conveyor industry research and development.The selecting friction coefficient has great impact on the calculation result in the calculation of the running resistance of the German standard DIN22101as well as the ISO5048international standard. But the friction coefficient is not considered in United States CEMA standard,it calculates the various parts of the resistance according to sources and causes of resistance. Summarizing the classification of the various parts of the resistance base on CEMA6and the international ISO5048-1989and the German standard DIN22101-20002.Analyzing the cause of the various parts of the resistance and the different methods of calculation and comparing the various method of calculation,For each part of the resistances, select the least resistance calculation method to form a hybrid calculation method, give the conditions of belt tension calculating when use the hybrid method and give the resistance iterative computation methods and procedures, then quantitative analysis the factors that affect power consumption. Select metrics and through the analysis of examples drawn the influence size and trend of the diameter of the roller, the distance between rollers, conveyor belt cover thickness, belt speed, volume, sag, the ambient temperature and the width of belt.In the design and operation phases of belt conveyors, combined with the actual situation, we select three different aspects of optimization problems for analysis and select annual operating costs of the conveyor and energy consumption rate as the objective function. Speed, belt width, roller space and volume are selected as design variables, considering the constraints suffered by the operation of the conveyor, establish three energy optimization models. Analysis the energy optimization models and gives each model solving method and the step. Through the project example analysis and with the original design scheme comparison, proved the feasibility of the belt conveyor energy optimization methods.
