Objective: This essay is a study on Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) ofhypertension, especially in the aspect of its stability efficacy in controlling bloodpressure and improvement of syndrome of TCM. The method is to observe the effectson the treatment of elderly hypertensive patients of Rhizoma Gastrodiae WendanDecoction in the smoothness index of ambulatory blood pressure and clinical efficacy. Methods: There were60patients who have the disease of senile hypertension andbelong to the syndrome type of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis, which wasequally divided into two groups-treatment group and control group. It makes surethat no significant differences between the two groups patients in the aspect of age, gender, course of disease and the original condition of patients. The control group wastreated with conventional western medicine alone (Amlodipine Besylate Tablets5mgQD). On the other hand, beside the above mentioned therapy the treatment group alsoapplied Rhizoma Gastrodiae Wendan Decoction to the treatment. The prescription is200ml each time, everyday twice and14days for a course of treatment. Firstly, it wassignificant to collect and analysis observation indexes before and in the course oftreatment. Then the smoothness index can be calculated from the collected data ofambulatory blood pressure. In the end it was necessary to utilize statistical method fortherapeutic evaluation. Results:In the first place, the total effective rate of reduction blood pressure for thetreatment group is93.33%and the result of control group is70%, P<0.05. Then in the condition of prior treatment, it is sure that there is no significant differences in theaspects of24hSBP,24hDBP,dSBP,dDBP,nSBP,nDBP for the two comparativegroups which indicates they have the comparability. What is more, after the therapy, itappears that the surveillance results of ambulatory blood pressure for treatment groupis particularly better than control group in the comparison of24hSBP and dSBP(P<0.01). Meanwhile the treatment group is also excellent comparing to controlgroup in the sides of24hDBP,dDBP and nSBP(P<0.05). It should be acknowledgedthat there is no significant differences in comparison them about nDBP (P>0.05). Thenext part is the treatment group’s smoothness index (SI) of ambulatory blood pressurein comparison with the control group. It turns out that SI of both groups areincremental after the course of therapy, but the data of treatment group is much betterwhich shows that systolic pressure index is(1.33±0.16)and diastolic pressure index is(1.22±0.10). The other comparison part is the condition of patients in syndrome ofintermingled phlegm and blood stasis. It is86.67%of total effective rate in treatmentgroup which is prior than the63.33%of control groups. The improvement in singlesymptom of the control group performs less than treatment group too(P<0.05). Atlast there is no significant differences in security indexes of each item in the twocomparative groups. Conclusion: It is safe and effective to treat Senile hypertension patients for theirsyndrome type of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis by Rhizoma GastrodiaeWendan Decoction. Meanwhile, this kind of therapy also indicates its stability qualityin controlling blood pressure rather than the exclusive use of western medicine. Thedecoction is particularly effective in treatment of senile hypertension which type issyndrome of intermingled phlegm and blood stasis. To sum up, it is worthy of a wideapplication.
