Objective: To understand the status of occupational protection of dentists in Zunyi city by analyzing the different impacts on dentists according category, sex, age, professional title, education level and other demographic characteristics and other related factors. Besides, this dissertation explores effective measures for ensuring medical diagnosis security and provides suggestions about how to improve the occupational security of dentists. Methods: A self-designed questionnaires was applied for understanding personal protection and 237 dentists were collected from 127 hospitals by multistage, stratified, and random cluster sampling methods. Meanwhile, when database was established by Excel 2013 after data entry was performed by double input with software Epidata3.1, the data were analyzed by SPSS19.0 software, including statistic description, OVERALS analysis, One-Way ANOVA analysis of variance, homogeneity of variance test of Levene and Independent T-test, etc. Results: 1. The number of dental chair in stomatological hospitals was more than ten sets comparing with one to three either in stomatological department of general hospitals or dental clinics. 2. The number of the daily outpatient visits(personal/day) in stomatological hospitals and department of stomatology in general hospitals was more than 12(personal/day), and 6-12(personal/day) in stomatology OPD or less than 6(personal/day) in dental clinics. 3. The basic amounts of high speed rotary instruments in two stomatological hospitals were more than those of daily outpatient visits, either in stomatological hospital, department of stomatology, stomatology OPD, or dental clinics. The number could not meet the demand of daily outpatient visits. 4. 237 issued questionnaires were recycled as valid. More than half of them were male(50.63%), graduated from junior college(36.29%), and worked less than 5 years(35.02%) with primary technical job title(45.15%). 5. Dentists’ knowledge were mainly from curriculum and lectures including textbook or practice teaching material for medical university, lecture materials for continuing education training, or other materials from experience, exchange, journal, web, TV, etc. 6. The favorable way for dentist to choose was continuing education training, and followed by web course and the teaching materials about hospital infection control and prevention. The lest ways were self-teaching or other training. 7. Scores about occupational protection of dentists were as follows: the scores of 237 dentists about whether measures of occupational protection were carried out were ranged from 1 to 10, with 5.47 as average and 5 as median. Furthermore, 117 out of 237 dentists got the score above 5(49.37%). 8. Among the different factors that influence execution of occupational protection by dentist, there were obvious differences among types of hospital, length of service, professional title and degree of education(P<0.05) except of gender. Conclusion: 1. The device configuration either in department of stomatology, stomatology OPD or dental clinics could not meet daily needs of outpatient visits except stomatological hospitals. 2. More than half dentists are in shorter service time, lower education level and professional title. 3. Dental hospital category, seniority, professional title, education and other demographic characteristics are the influence factors of occupational protection. 4. Lack of protective behavior in dentists may be due to short of systematic knowledge. So that, continuing education and training on prevention and control of infection and establishment of relative managements in stomatology hospital should be carried out as soon as possible.
