Translator's Subjectivity From The Perspective Of The Hermeneutic Motion

Folding Beijing is actually a realistic novel that mirrors social problems presented in the form of a fantasy.Set in Beijing,this story is full of unique cultural elements.Study on Ken Liu's translation of the cultural-loaded words can offer us a glimpse into the translator's subjectivity and his excellent skills.This thesis takes the translator's subjectivity as the study topic,hermeneutic motion as the theoretic basis,and culture-loaded words as the study object.As of the topic and the theory,this thesis explores evolvement and the nature of the translator's subjectivity and the hermeneutic translation theory and their connections.In the text analysis part,this thesis analyzes Liu's translation of the cultural-loaded words based on Steiner's hermeneutic motion,with a view to finding out how the translator's subjectivity is manifested.Based on the fourfold hermeneutic motion:trust,aggression,incorporation and restitution,this thesis delves into Liu's delicate handling of the language and cultural differences,and explores how the translator,with his own cultural consciousness,integrity,and aesthetic creativity,strikes a balance between the source and the receptor.This thesis concludes that translators should break free from the fetters of traditional rules of "faithfulness" and sterile translation strategies.Instead,according to the Steiner's hermeneutic motion,translators should,using their own subjectivity,strive to mediate into the exchange between the source and the receptor "without loss" and restore the balance.
