Agile Manufacturing (AM) is a developing strategy facing the global market competition in 21'th century. At present, the study of the AM theory and application mostly focuses on enterprise-level, but not have a regard for agile problem of workshop. But the research of agile workshop is the key problem realizing the AM idea, and worth being discussed from the theory level on the AM mode. Therefore, it not only has important theoretical significance but also has considerable practical value to research the architecture, control principle, cooperative operation method and implementing technology of virtual workshop (VW) based on agile manufacturing mode.According to the information management system developed for the Standard Part Workshop, Chengdu Airplane Company (CAC) to realize its agile and cooperative work, this paper puts forward an architecture of virtual workshop management and control, implementing model of virtual workshop production scheduling and management system based on multi-agent principle, programming technology and method of constructing knowledge management system. At the same time, the author has successfully developed an application software system named SCU-Workshop IMS. The main characteristics and creative ideas of the paper are as follows:1. The VW position under the dynamic alliance and the requirement of information concurrent in VW is first analyzed, a model of VW resources, an network architecture of VW controlling and cooperating, together with a model of VW life circle are presented.2. Based on the model feature of VW life-circle, this paper studies four key technologies for resources restructuring, cooperative work, product scheduling and quality control of virtual workshop. A model of manufacturing cell reconstructing is discussed, and an improved negotiating algorithm is presented which considers both capability and cooperative history when selecting the partners of the VW alliance. According to above researching work, a nested agile workflow framework is put forward as a systematic platform of supporting cooperative work of VW. A scheduling model based on the principle of the loop adjusts between region workshops and manufacturing cell is given, and a framework of distributed quality control strategy is also discussed.3. This paper puts forward a cooperative work implementing model of VW based on Multi-agent and workflow technology. The model is fit for the changeable organization and for the cooperative work among the Region Workshop, the Manufacturing unit and the personnel. Based on the model, the author constructs a manufacturing cell model using multi-agent mode, designs the inner structure of manage Agent, resources reconstruct Agent, schedule Agent, activity Agent and interface Agent. The paper also gives an example to describe the principle of communication and cooperation between Agents.4. The Virtual Workshop is a typical distributed system, the author presents an implementing model of VW based on J2EE in which logical layer consists management layer, core business layer, component layer and resources layer, and discuss the method of system programming, the client side tools, the integration of legacy systems and the work principle of mobile agent using Java. Under the condition of lab, author also develops a prototype system based on the theory above.5. After analyzing the controlling and driven mode of VW, the paper points out the key problems of VW scheduling. Thus, an scheduling algorithm model of the schedule agent is built, Genetic Algorithm is applied, and the results of numerical examples show that the algorithm can solve the problem that multitask are assigned to multicell.6. There are many a uncertain factor in the process of product management and process control, it needs new knowledge and strategy for VW to handle them when system encounter conflict and illogicality, knowledge and its management play outstanding role in VW management system.
