Wholeness And Adaptation Enlightenment Of Complex Science On Architecture

Based on the theories of Complex Science (CS) and Complex Adaptive System(CAS), this dissertation discusses thoroughly the various complex problems in architecture with the thought of cross-discipline, wholeness and adaptability. New viewpoints, definitions and methods are provided. Firstly, the features and theories of CS and CAS are introduced briefly. The significance and enlightenment of complex science for practice are also emphasized. Since architecture is a complex adaptive system that should be treated with complex science, we should change the thinking mode from simplicity to complexity in studying the various problems appeared in architecture and urban design.The trend of urbanism, information and ecology have brought forward many new subjects on architecture design and urban design, which make us recognizing the interaction of architecture and city, the diversity of architecture and city development, the combination of macro-manner and micro-manner and the capabilities of the science consciousness of the whole society. In a word, we should use the wholeness principle to handle the complex problems in architecture.Adaptability is very important in the process of architecture and urban development. We should balance the city status between order and disorder with the satisfaction principle in architecture practice, and combine the wholeness principle and adaptation principle to meet the needs of the sustainable development of architecture and city.
