Mining cities, as producing area of China’s mineral resources and primary production, the sustainable development of mining cities is the important guarantee of China’s economic development and industrialization. From the theory of dissipative structure characteristics to research its state of sustainable development, analysis the characteristics, mechanism and the process of sustainable developing of mining cities.We take the city of Wu`an as an example, to evaluate the status and trend of sustainable developing. The main contents are as follows:(1) Reveal the characteristics and principle of dissipative structure in mining cities. By analyzing the characteristics of exchange of external matter, energy and information for mining city dynamic open system, to define that mining city has the features of dissipative structure, also has characteristics of open, far-from equilibrium status, non-linear and fluctuation. Based on Malos’ s hierarchy of needs theory and entropy flow theory, the evaluation model grid organization is set up. We divide the development of mining city by three stages which are survival, ascription and growth.Applying entropy evaluation model of planar single core grid, ring single core gird and tree based multi core grid to discuss the driving force for sustainable development of mining city, we believe the main driving force of sustainable developing exist in land use, ecosystem and subsystem of social economics, and discuss the coupling relation of three sub-systems.(2) Announcing the mining city health level of Wu’an. To avoid the influence of over optimistic for subsystem of social economics, we only evaluate the mining city system health of land use and eco-subsystem. The result shows that in the land us subsystem by spatial, the land demand is much more than actual land use scale, it is difficult to remain co-ordinary of supply and demand. For the eco-subsystem by time, the negative influence each year from social life would be dispelled for 39.4years by natural environment, which is much more than global average level of 1.5years. So the mining city health system of Wu’an is in a poor level.(3)To built a mining city sustainable analyzing system based on entropy theory.Setting up the analysis system basing on land use of mining city, entropy change of ecological and social economics subsystem, and apply in the sustainable analysis of Wu’an. The results show that the ecological reduction ability of Wu’an increase first and the decrease. It increases by 0.0048 nat from 2005 to 2009 and decreased by0.0059 to 2013. The cost of ecological economy decreased by 0.0242 nat from 2005 to2013, the sustainable developing level decreased by 0.0253 nat from 2005 to 2013.The whole system presents the trend of sustainable developing and the sustainable developing strategy can be inferred basing on entropy theory and sustainable analysis result. For land use, positive entropy increase and negative entropy decrease of ecological and social economics subsystem, the sustainable developing strategy of three subsystem for Wu’an can be proposed and also, the adjustment can be proposed by supporting, pressure, reduction and consumption of entropy.
