Objective: To understand the change of the lipid peroxide in the BALB/C mouse brain tissue and the expression of intercellular adhesion molecular-1 in the early stage after whole brain irradiation. We want to know whether these changes can be inhibited after intervention with traditional Chinese medicine. We also want to know whether the radiation-induced late injury of the brain tissue can be ameliorated by the traditional Chinese Medicine through blocking the primary events. Materials and methods: This trail include five subgroups, there are sham irradiation group (C) , irradiation only group (R) , irradiation plus dexamethasone group (R+DXM),irradiation plus anisodamine group ( R+654-2 ) and irradiation plus Salvia Miltiorrhiza group (R+SM) . The whole brain of BALB/C mouse was radiated 25Gy by using a 6-MV accelerator in the early reaction period trails, and 22Gy in the late reaction period trails. Ten hours after the whole brain irradiation, the brain tissue and blood sample were taken, and using thiobarbituric acid reaction to detect the malonaldehyde substitute for the lipid peroxide. Using the immunohistochemistry reaction to detect the expression of ICAM-1 at the day 1,2, 3,and 10 after received the whole brain irradiation. Using step down methods to evaluation the study and memory abilities at the day 30 and 60 after the mouse received the whole...
