After the Cold War, according to changes of the international society, Mongolia started to adopt the"multiple-oriented"foreign policy by giving up the previous one which was overwhelmingly directed towards the former Soviet Union. In the meantime of its transformation, the scope of Mongolia's foreign policy was widened and its international image was promoted. While the new foreign policy created a comparatively better environment for both the survival and the development of the whole country, it also constructed some kind of shock to as well as laid the influence on relations among big powers either within the region or in the international society as a whole. China and Mongolia have long distance of shared boundaries, and the two countries have comprehensively all-round relationships both in terms of history and of the present time. It is from this aspect that the study of Mongolia's foreign policy boosts academic and practical implications.With the theoretic guidance of Marxism's materialistic and dialectic perspective and the combination of the latest research in foreign policy and politics, this dissertation aims to study the foundation and characteristics of Mongolia's foreign policy systematically as well as comprehensively, to reveal its gains and losses from experience and to predict its future development trend from historical and sociological point of view. This dissertation is composed of seven parts, the respective subject and main idea of each part is as follows:The part of introduction is mainly about the research background and the academic value of this dissertation, the main problem it deals with, the present research situation both at home and abroad about the specific topic, and the research methods and the structure of this dissertation.The second part is the first chapter of this dissertation, which is the foundation of the whole dissertation. It is about the general analysis of Mongolia's foreign policy, including the illustration of the stance, the rule and the purpose of present Mongolia's foreign policy. This part explains the main theme of Mongolia's foreign policy from the perspective of economy, science, culture and civilization, and based upon the above mentioned, it touches upon the primary characteristics of Mongolia's foreign policy.The succeeding chapter concentrates on factors that exert influences on Mongolia's foreign policy. A country's foreign policy is based upon both inside and outside factors which have some effects on it. It is from this point that this part makes analysis about factors affecting Mongolia's foreign policy, such as international environment, the country's power and the country's perception of the first two factorsThe third chapter of this dissertation deals with the decision-making framework of Mongolia's foreign policy, including the subjects, the decision-making process and the generalization of its decision-making pattern. It also provides comprehensive evaluation about the decision-making framework.The fourth chapter is about the actual experiment of present Mongolia's foreign policy. It makes analysis as well as comparison about the actual conduction of Mongolia's foreign policy towards China, Russia, the U.S., Japan and the main international organizations.The fifth chapter dwells upon the future development trend of Mongolia's foreign policy and its specific policy towards China. Based upon factual analysis, this part aims to make prediction about the future direction of Mongolia's foreign policy, to give suggestions to our country's reflective policy making. Putting forward the implications, which Mongolia's foreign policy might provide for other similar countries, is also within the intention of this dissertation.
