This dissertation starts with a literature review of business process reengineering and then follows up with a further and more systematic study in such four areas as (1) the design and management of business process; (2) the business activity relationship based on Petri net principle; (3) the description, analysis, optimization, integration and evaluation of the business process by stochastic Petri net and (4) the application of these approaches and process.Generally, the major contents of this study can be specified as follows:1.To point out the substantial content of the study and its initiative ideas after stating the background and significance of the program and briefly commenting upon the status quo of the business process reengineering study both at home and abroad, the technology and tools used and their achievement and efficiency.2.To sum up the nature of business process and on this basis to further discuss the designing principles, designing methods, optimization, integration and management process of the various kinds of business process in a company, emphasizing the design and management of business process under the condition of information technology and demonstrating the background, relationship and differences of the business process reengineering and optimization and finally showing the implementation procedures of the business process reengineering.3. To introduce both the Petri net theory and stochastic Petri net theory as well as its analysis technology with a view of explaining why the reachability set and the steady probability algorithm and the reachability analysis and invariant calculation and analysis principles are used for the study of business reengineering. 4. To display, through plane flow chart of a company's business activity, the description and transformation of Petri net model, four relations of the activities within a company i.e., the selection, conflicts, synchronization and complication; To show the significance of and correspondent relationship among those four relationships and business process reengineering; To solve the problem of selection by using value chains and further describe, analyze and achieve selection by using reengineering algorithm of incident matrix so as to lay a foundation for the optimization, reengineering and function analysis of business process.5. To construct a continuous Markov chain through stochastic Petri net technology with a view of solving the conflicts in the process of resources competition, i.e., to transform conflicts into synchronization and to maintain a complication with Petri net for the purpose of achieving business process optimization and analyzing the property of the system..6. To demonstrate through two cases study the actual application process of the business process reengineering approach and to expound the efficiency and characteristics of this study through system property analysis.7. To conclude the present study and bring forth the orientation of further subsequent studies.The initiative ideas of the study that this dissertation brings forth lie in the following:1. To effectively combine the design and management of business process by using the principle and method of system analysis and coordination from the point of view of system science and to illustrate how to reengineer the business process of a company by using information technology under the circumstances of electronic commerce.2. To introduce for the first time stochastic Petri net into the study and realization of business process reengineering.3. To more specifically describe and analyze the relationship between a company's interior processes by making use of the advantage and characteristics of stochastic Petri net and further bring forth an optimization calculation.4. It is an essential improvement to use stochastic Petri net instead of the traditional system imitation to analyze the result of business process reengineering, a method that can not only analyze the global results but also the efficiency between each process.
