With the globalization of economy and the development of technology, the business competition becomes more violent than ever before. In order to survive, enterprises should adopt new strategies to adapt to the new customer oriented markets. Under this background, business process reengineering (BPR) was proposed in the early I 990s. Although there are many studies on this topic, the theory of BPR is still in the stage of qualitative experience. This is the reason why so many BPR projects have failed till now. In a word, the theory of BPR is far from meeting the practice end. In view of this, the research on the theory of BPR has good sense nowadays. This paper concentrates on going beyond the existing BPR theory, proposing a APM model. APM tries to combine Petri net theory with agent-the latest research topic in the field of Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAT). The method firstly models the target business process with Petri net, then convert the elements of the Pefli into agents. APM model has the ability of automatically running, automatically diagnosing the process problem, and automatically optimizing the process. In the practice level, this paper proposes the concept and framework of Computer Aided Business Process Reengineering (CABPR) tool, in addition to a partial implement of the CABPR tool.In Chapter One, the importance, definition and basic concept of BPR, as well as its current researches, existing problems, and further research topics are covered. In Chapter Two, some qualitative methods of business process reengineering are presented from two different views: tactically and strategically. It can be summed as methodology and servers as direction in the practice of BPRIn Chapter Three, the theory of Petri net and its application in the modeling of business process is the main content, in addition to the discuss of the design of a kind of controller with Petri net.In Chapter Four, APM model is discussed in detail, including the definition of APM model, the combination, decomposition and substitution arithmetic of APM, as well as the process of optimization. The framework of every type of APM's elements is also presented. In Chapter Five, the concept and framework of CABPR tool is proposed, in addition to a partial implement of the tool.BPR is a complicated system engineering. The author can only contributes to the exploring of new BPR model and the framework of CABPR. There are still many researches need to be done in this field.
