This paper is an empirical study about the process of China's urbanization, urban adaptation of minority floating population in the Western region of China. Since1980s, especially since1990s when the market economic system was gradually established, the rural population including the minorities swarmed into the urban areas in large number. Compared with the general floating population, minority floating population not only reflects the flow between the urban and rural areas, but also reflects the trans-national exchanges. Therefore, the social integration of minority floating population is even more complex, and subjected to the dual challenges and tests of rural-urban migration and cross-national exchanges. Since the rural-urban differences and ethnic differences exist prevalently in China, minority floating population is increasingly becoming one of the vulnerable groups in urban society. In a sense, the degree of social integration of minority floating population is an important indicator to measure the rural-urban differences and ethnic differences. However, for this very important issue, current academic research is relatively weak. This paper concerns of minority floating population, which not only has a variety of ethnic attribution and also belongs to two different religious and cultural systems, namely Tibetan Buddhism and Islam. Muslims of Dongxiang, Salar and Hui ethnic groups have their own different historical memories, and Dongxiang and salar have their own unique set of ethnic languages. Although both Tibetan and Tu people believe in Tibetan Buddhism, they still have their own languages. In the study, under the guidance of the theory of Holism, I carry out an in-depth research on the minority floating population's economy, culture and social life of Tibetan, Tu, Hui, Salar and Dongxiang in Chengdong District, Xining city, in the hope of finding the problems when they integrate into the city and making a number of valuable strategies as possible as I can. In addition, the paper also explores the ways of urbanization with regional and national characteristics and promotes the process of urbanization, positive interaction and coordinated development in the changes of the ethnic cultures in the Western region. The main contents are as follows. Introduction, the first part, introduces the research purpose and significance, research results and theories at home and abroad about the topic and the specific theories and methods this paper adopts; Chapter â…  elaborates the connotation of urbanization, the dilemma in China's urbanization, the status and features of minority floating population in China's cities; Chapter â…¡, through the history review and status introduction on urban development in Qinghai province, provides a geographical and a spatio-temporal framework for the following chapters; Chapter III describes means of livelihood and inhabitation, diet, income and consumption in the daily life of the minority floating population in Chengdong District, Xining city; Chapter IV analyses the leisure entertainment and religious life of the minority floating population from the aspects of standard of education, educational concept and language status; Chapter V mainly analyses the social relations of the minority floating population from social contacts, political participation, marriage relationship, etc. in the city; Chapter VI discusses the cultural changes of the minority floating population in the adaption process; Chapter VII analyses the specific problems arising in the process as well as the reasons why they appear in the integration process of the minority floating population, and puts forward some specific measures. All in all, faced with the realities of today's rapid development of urbanization in China, the urban direction and trend of urbanization of the minority floating population is a historical necessity and a new opportunity for close contacts, mutual learning and collaborative development among different ethnic groups. Only through standing at a historical starting point, clearly understanding the situation, following the rules, giving judicious guidance according to circumstances, advancing in a pioneering spirit can we truly achieve national harmony and social progress in the process of urbanization in China.
