The purport of this dissertation is to point out that during the course of education we should not only pay more attention to the promotion ofstudents by knowledge mastering and technical ability improving--forthat's on operating levels, but also pay more attention to the promotion of students by making them heart purgation, soul nobility, spirit richening and calling forth their freedom creative life-force--for this is on significant levels.Significance means a person who existing, that is to say significance means a people who can surmount all obstacles and can create self-comprehension, self-confirmation in the world of human beings during the objective activities. It displays the richness of spirit, the burst of life's vividness, surpass of self-quality, free creativity of the human' s independence, etc. The seeking of modern education' s significance refers to reflecting the value of education through the education process. It is the target and confirmation for the students' spiritual activities included in the education process, which shows the fullness of spirit, the richness of life and caring for life through reflecting and asking the ultimate questions such as why people should receive education and what' s the significance of the education to people.The lost of the significance of modern education is embodied by the hollow of students' spirit, the downwards of moral standards, the crises of viewpoints of value, the dispirits of one' s action and so on. The outer factors resulted to the ignorance and indifference of the construction of the students' meaningful world are the nature of pursuing profit of modern education by holding the wealth of industrial society, the nature of mechanism of modern education by pursuing rational order of the industrial culture and nature' s vulgar of modern education by the sensation of industrial culture. The inner factor is modern education gets far away from the responsibility of inducting the life and looks education as a process of receiving knowledge, which displays in education' s aim, contents, procession, environment and education result.Linking to the development of the west modern education philosophy, this dissertation is to exploring the way of rescue and critique to the lost of modern education' s significance from the viewpoint of west modern education philosophy. This dissertation holds that west modern education philosophy criticizes modern education in such aspects as modern ignores and deforms the individual student, smothers the willing of the students and goes far away from the students' real life. By means of educational route and method, this dissertation analyses the tactics of educational significance in view of west education philosophy and points to thedefects in education' s inner parts.Though the lost of modern educational significance in industrial society has its historical rationality in the value-choosing on the development of nation and society, education that neglecting spiritual care and promotion of educated students and stifling the development of individual inner life will lost its rationality and reveal its malady on the coming of the living society. It will be the core of the education reform and development that exploring the life' s meaning and promoting life' s development with all aspects, harmony and sustentation.On the basis of rethinking about the lost of modern education' s significance and with practices to the development of the times and human, this dissertation firstly put forward modern education' s developing trends of the seeking significance, that is: education should go back to life' s origin, go to lives' world, embody ultimate caring about one' s life, advocate scientific and humanity education, construct lifelong education and lifelong learning.
