Objective.The study is focused on construction of innovative talents' competency model and competency dictionary on major discipline of university,and validation of the competency model.This will provide an evidence to screen,appraise,prompt,train and performance innovative talents of major discipline.Methods:1.To interview 10 experts through semi-structured question,then to analysis interview transcripts.2.Behavior event interview(BEI) was used to study 20 persons who were divided into the outstanding and the average,then BEI transcripts were coded.3.The universal competence of innovative talents'self-rating form was developed according to the universal competency model of innovative talents,then was test reliability and validity.4.Exploratory factor analysis and structured equation model were used to validate the critical competency model of innovative talents.Results:1.Length of BEI transcripts of the outstanding is not significantly different from that of the average(10041.3±1100.15 words/ 9495.7±679.45 words,P>0.05),Length of time of BEI of the outstanding is not significantly different from that of the average(62.3±7.02 minutes/59.3±4.32 minutes,P>0.05).2.Inter-Rater reliability was studied.Category Agreement(CA)was 83.6%,96.42%of Intraclass Correlation Coefficient(ICC) was more than 0.4.3.There was significant difference in 19 competencies between mean level of competence shown by superior versus average subjects(P<0.01):Communication(CMC), Strategic Thinking(STT),Systems Thinking(SYT),Overall View(OVV),Performance Orientation(PMO),Problem Solution(PLS),Creative Thinking(CTH),Information Seeking(INF),Professionalism(PRO),Learning(LRN),Forefront Tracking(FFT),Resources Integration(RSI),Plan(PLN),Teamwork Integration(TMI),Guidance Monitoring(GNM), Market Analysis(MA),Interpersonal Understanding(IPU),Flexibility(FLX),Relationship Building(RB).4.The items was analyzed in the universal competence of innovative talents'self-rating form,and there was significant difference between 45 persons in the higher score and 45 persons in the lower score(P<0.01).5.The results of exploratory factor analysis of the items validated the critical competency model of innovative talents.6.The universal competence of innovative talents'self-rating form was analyzed by explaining the variance rate(63.603%),which was good construct validity.7.Internal consistency analysis showed that the Cronbach a coefficient ranged from 0.717 to 0.924.8.The critical competency model of innovative talents were tested through structured equation model,goodness of fit indices were as follow:NNFI=0.93,CFI=0.91,RMSEA=0.058.Conclusions:1.The critical competency model of innovative talents on major discipline of university are as follows:Communication(CMC),Strategic Thinking(STT),Systems Thinking(SYT),Overall View(OVV),Performance Orientation(PMO),Problem Solution(PLS),Creative Thinking(CTH), Information Seeking(INF),Professionalism(PRO),Learning(LRN),Forefront Tracking(FFT), Resources Integration(RSI),Plan(PLN),Teamwork Integration(TMI),Guidance Monitoring (GNM),Market Analysis(MA),Interpersonal Understanding(IPU),Flexibility(FLX), Relationship Building(RB).2.Exploratory factor analysis of the items identified that the universal competence of innovative talents'self-rating form had four second-order factors.They were labeled as follows:Innovative Culture,Strategic planning,Innovative Ability and Market Orientation.3.Competency assessment methods has good reliability and validity,it could be used among Chinese innovative talents on major discipline of university.4.The universal competence of innovative talents'self-rating form has good reliability and validity.5.The critical competency model of innovative talents is found good construct validity through exploratory factor analysis.6.The critical competency model of innovative talents could be used to screen, appraise,prompt,train and performance innovative talents of major discipline.
