Research On Product, Industrial And Regional Innovation Patterns

In its historical perspective, many experts have made outstanding achievements on innovation research involving principium, methods, and practice and so on in relation to product, industry and region. However, a lack of research on integrated innovation system which is consisting of product innovation system, industry innovation system and regional innovation system is very marked. We hardly know the operating mechanism, development path, evolution rules or so of the integrated innovation system. Meanwhile we will be asked to know those things because of some practical questions. For example, he or she has to face a problem how to make some innovational product or technology become commodities, then, industries as an enterpriser. The governments at all levels have to consider what the best strategy to the local economic development is and which kind of industry is the best choice. It's just the main core of this paper. So, this paper is an exploration for the evolvement laws of development path of the integrated innovation system. We want to get some useful conclusions to the development of regions of China based on the macro balanced development strategy.System science theories and integrated innovation theories are the most important guidance theories for this dissertation. The dissertation combines the quantitative and qualitative analysis, theories and practices research. There are three characteristics of this dissertation. First, we always think the strong correlations are exist among the product development, industry development and region development, which are the three different levels of the big integrated economic system. Second, the dissertation wants to explain the change of the system because of innovation, as a power, either product innovation or industry innovation or regional innovation. Thirdly, there are many cases involved in this dissertation which are used to improve the practicality of the theories.The dissertation divides into five parts. First part is the introduction which includes the research background, current situation, foundational theories and the methods. Based on the research of experts, the second part describes some phenomena of path dependence during the economic development in China. Aim at these phenomena, the dissertation points out that some innovation measures must be carried out to avoid path be locked-in. The third part analyzes the main factors of path choice of economic system. According to the history order of innovation development, we think the principal parts of innovation are pluralistic and dynamic. Innovation spirit and pursuing benefits are the inherent drive of innovation mainstay; competitive pressure and innovation culture are the exterior factors. There are different emphases in different innovation level. The technology innovation is the main means for the product system. Management innovation is the key measure to industry system and system innovation is the most important impetus for the region. At last, the dissertation makes a set of rules to evaluate the results of development path.The fourth part, form chapter 4 to chapter 9, is the core of this dissertation. The analysis shows there are six development patterns for integrated system. Through the detailed research for the growth of the Silicon Valley, the author summarized the characteristics of evolution pattern and thinks the Silicon Valley can't be copied because of the lack of the significant innovation product even some innovation factors been aggregated. Compared with the evolution pattern, the incubating pattern fits more regions to use. Campus Science and Technology Park is classic example. Many universities have built their high-tech parks by collaborating with the enterprises and local government. Though building the best innovational environment, the business incubator can accelerate the development speed of new technology. Some regions can choose the pattern of prolonging industry link to accelerate the regional economic development when they have not enough innovational resources to create significant product. For some very important industries for the national security or competitive ability, such as automobile industry, the pivotal development way is to build the platform of industry like the PNGV of USA. Except for the above four patterns, there are two patterns which fit the developing countries or regions. First is guidance pattern. The government plays a key role in this pattern which can congregate innovational resources by administrative resorts. The optic valley of Wuhan is a typical example. The last pattern is niche pattern which means difference competition. Some economically backward regions need to find some developmental space avoiding excessive competition. The means of implementation lies in finding the "blue ocean space" of the market.Finally, the dissertation makes the conclusions, gives the main new ideas and prospects the future research considerations based on this study.
