Research On The Status And Function Of Beijing Sports University In The History Of China’s Sportive Diplomacy

Beijing Sports University, which was founded in 1953, witnessed the development of China’s sportive diplomacy. As a kind of diplomatic means which state leaders of several generations pay high attention to, sportive diplomacy constitutes an important part of China’s whole diplomacy. Beijing Sports University, as China’s most prestigious university in sports field, plays an important role that can’t be ignored along the history of China’s sportive diplomacy. We sum up the status and function of Beijing Sports University in the history of China’s Sportive diplomacy for the purpose of not only preserving the history, but also providing meritorious historical reference for both the development of China’s sportive diplomacy and school’s external exchanges. The thesis shifts the traditional perspective of researching the history of colleges and universities by taking Beijing Sports University as an example to study its role and function in the history of China’s sportive diplomacy. Meanwhile, the thesis bases on constructivism theory to carry out description and evaluation by method of consulting documentation, historical approach and dictating history.The history China’s sportive diplomacy can be divided into five stages according to the ever-changing international environment, national interests and national images in combination with the time division of diplomatic history and evolution of sportive diplomatic affairs. First, the period of one-sided foreign policy(from the foundation of new China to the mid-1950s-).Beijing Sports University acted as an important role of presenting the images of new China and promoting foreign exchanges and the speedy development of China’s sports affairs, thus establishing its significant status in the field of sportive diplomacy. Second, the period of breaking through the blockade (from the mid and late of 1950s to the late of 1960s). Beijing Sports University served as the showcase of China’s sports undertakings and exerted an crucial influence in the sports foreign aid work, which in turn made its status improved in an all-around way. Third, the period of taking a quantum leap and achieving great development (from the early of 1970s to the late of 1970s). Its status has reached a new historical level.In general. Beijing Sports University has been enjoying important role all the time in the history of China’s sportive diplomacy and consistently plays an irreplaceable role in showcasing the achievements of our sportive diplomacy undertakings, carrying out sports foreign aid, spreading Chinese sports culture, cultivating international sports talents, serving international sports events, enlarging the discourse of international sports organization and strengthening international sports academic exchanges. Now in the context of enhancing our national soft power, Beijing Sports University should give full play to its own advantage to make more contribution to the undertakings of our sportive diplomacy in the following aspects:the foundation the rating system of China’s sportive diplomacy, the foundation of long-term promotion mechanism of Chinese sports culture and cultivating more sportive diplomacy talents.
