Abstract/Summary:
The inheritance of national culture is faced with severe challenge currently with the accelerated proceeding of modernization. Family and community inheritance we live by for a long time seems weak in the context of modernity, while the inheritance of school and policy power, as an emerging mode, is run into functional obstacle to some extent. Hence, it becomes an inevitable problem how we are supposed to inherit and protect national culture effectively in globalization. With a case study of the community of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality through relevant methodologies of Anthropology, this research is to have a thorough a research of the modes of inheriting and protecting ethnic minority cultures from the perspective of modern educational technology. As an important branch of Miao Nationality, Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality is known for the35-46cm-long wooden horn wearing on their heads. Their community has kept their folk custom relatively intact and preserves a profound national culture. As a result, it features a typicality of ethnic minority culture in south-western China and is thus regarded as a living fossil of human races. The particularities of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality Ecological Museum are of special significance to the study of the inheritance of cultural ecology of other ethnic minorities in south-western China. In general, the case study of the cultural inheritance of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality needs to focus on the following questions:1. How did the culture of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality come into being?2. In what way was its culture inherited?3. What kinds of evolutions and changes happened to the system of this cultural inheritance?4. Are there any dilemmas of inheriting the culture of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality?5. How could their culture be inherited scientifically and reasonably?6. In the context of globalization, how could we explore reasonable approaches to inherit cultures of ethnic minorities on the basis of modern educational technologies? In light of the above questions, this research commends from a study of the history of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality. By sorting out their origin, migratory history, mythology and legend of their origin, etc, this research depicts the long history of this Longhorn Miao Nationality, a comprehensive clue for the interpretation of Longhorn Miao culture. After that, this research manages to present an integrated image of this branch through data from history and fieldwork. This covers different aspects of natural-geographical environment and socio-cultural resources, displaying the features of a through and authentic Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality. In accordance with the fieldwork, the community of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality possesses typical features of an ecological museum. Accordingly, its traditional culture is protected to some extent indeed. Meanwhile, members of the community have gained more knowledge about their own culture under the influence of the establishment of ecological museum and tourist development. But the problem is that this cognition is still relatively vague and mainly associated with the economic benefits of their traditional culture. In terms of the dilemmas of the cultural inheritance of Suojia Longhorn Miao Nationality, this research makes a comprehensive analysis of its multi-dimensional system of inheritance. It is found that the inheritance and protection of Longhorn Miao’s culture is still dominated by external forces. Among these forces, family and community have existed for a long time as the traditional systems of inheritance; in contrast, school and state power, with more modern compositions, represent novel modern systems of inheritance. All the four systems are indispensable to the inheritance of Longhorn Miao’s national culture, yet each of them is faced with different dilemmas in their own development. On basis of this, this research employs horizontal analysis and vertical deduction of different systems of inheritance systematically so that it can further explain their features, modes of operation, content of inheritance, status quo, dilemmas, functional obstacles, misunderstandings of their development, outlook for further development, etc. Based on the above efforts, bottleneck there might be in the development of the inheritance, this research holds that under the fast development of modern science and technology, the proper use of modern educational technology is the hope to resolve the said crises of inheritance. The seemingly distinct and separate systems of inheritance could be associated with each other through modern educational technology, so as to have an integrated construction of a multi-dimensional system. This construction could not only offset the defects of each single system, but can also break through the bottleneck of traditional inheritance systems in modern perspectives. As a result, it can help Suojia Longhorn Miao’s culture out of the unsustainable dilemmas. In this process of integrated construction, it is also possible to probe into the key system of inheriting national culture-internally originated force, that is, cultural consciousness. Therefore, this research could point out the methods and direction of inheriting and protecting national culture.Generally, this research has completed the targets designed above. The original achievements of this research are as follows:First, the multi-disciplinary combination of the theoretical methodologies of the cultural perspectives of Anthropology and educational technology does not only extend the approaches of educational technology, but also avail it with a newer and broader vision. Second, this research is beyond the traditional approach which oriented on educational technology itself, as it studies educational technology through anthropological fieldwork in a socio-cultural field that values holism. This could be seen as a methodological achievement. Last but not the least, this research explores the internal connection between educational technology and factors of the inheritance of national culture. Thus, it manages to have an in-depth integration of educational technology, anthropology and ethnology effectively. This, to some extent, is also a difficult point in this research and requires further amelioration.
