The Research History Of The Original Chinese Words In Vietnamese

Vietnam and China are two close neighbors, with contiguous mountains and rivers. From ancient times to the present, the two countries have always cultural exchanges continuously. As a neighbor in the southern of China, with the characteristic geographical conditions and history, the contact between the two countries makes Vietnam have much influence from China in terms of politics, economy, culture... especially language contact between the two countries.It can be seen that long-term and deep history between Sino-Vietnamese show on many aspects of Vietnamese. In the corpus of Vietnamese, the Chinese original words count over60%. Just look at the above figures we can also see the sino-original words have become an important part of modern Vietnamese. They are widely used, co-exist with the original Vietnamese language, and there is a clear division of text style.Sino original words are the lexical units of Vietnamese originally borrowed from the Chinese language through the process of long-term exposure to the Chinese language. The official words have officially become a part of Vietnamese vocabulary system, followed by the rules of phonology, semantics and grammar of this system.The sino original words in Vietnamese are written in latin phonetic, so they are no longer shaped like the Chinese character expression, which makes the distinction of the meaning of the original Chinese, especially homophones become relatively difficult problems. Along with the development of the national language in Vietnam, Han and Nom become the script of the past.Fewer and fewer Vietnamese people read and understand Sino. The sino original words get out of themselves, their meanings become more abstract. For Vietnamese, especially for young people, to understand the meaning and usage of sino words is relatively difficult. Therefore, the study of the Chinese words is always an important topic of Vietnamese language researchers.The study of the original Chinese in Vietnamese has been carried on for a very long time, if considering that study is not an independent science, from the16th century, this work was conducted through a dictionary as Sino-Vietnamese. Late19th and early20th century, especially from1945to today, there are many scholars have conducted research and published the results of research on many aspects of the original Chinese in Vietnamese. But, so far, there has been no systematic study of the history of the study of the original Chinese words in Vietnamese. Therefore, we choose "The research history of the original Chinese words in Vietnamese" to be my research (thesis). On the basis of a systematic study of the achievements of their predecessors, we offer evaluation, comments and suggestions to complete research process on this issue.The thesis consists of three parts:Introduction, the main theses and conclusions. Introductions present arguments and give reasons for selecting topics, meaningful themes, subjects and scope of the subject, the current state of research topics, objectives, content, methodology, new points of the thesis.The main part of thesis is divided into five chapters. Chapter1:The formation and development of Vietnamese and Vietnamese linguistics. We believe that, before studying "the researching history of the original Chinese words in Vietnamese", first we must find out three ways, the first is the formation and development of the Vietnamese, the second is the status of Vietnamese research history, the third is research periods of the original Chinese words in Vietnamese, which is the basis of the thesis research.Based on the divergence of the Vietnamese linguistics, we also divide research history of the original Chinese words in Vietnamese into three periods:medieval, early modern and modern. In the medieval period, researching original Chinese words has not formally appeared, but if we look at some of the dictionary Sino-Vietnamese at that time, it is easy to see that the scholars pay attention to these aspects as fundamental means of a number of original Chinese words. In addition, in terms of the structure and usage of the Vietnamese Nom, there is a lot of knowledge about the original Chinese words shown here. There is also a dictionary as the national language, represented as "Vietnamese-Portuguese-Latin dictionary ", though this kind of dictionary doesn’t describe, when selecting words, the author also pay attention to original Chinese words. We offer this phase in chapter2.Vietnam modern age began in1858(the French colonialists began to invade VN), which ended in1945when Vietnam was independent. Along with the development of Vietnamese language, research original Chinese words in Vietnamese are also increasingly interested by scholars. Due to the need to modernize Vietnamese, especially the need for translation of scientific and technical terms to Vietnamese, Vietnamese has emerged a large number of new original Chinese, Vietnamese scholars left much dedication to research and borrowed these words into Vietnamese. In terms of dictionaries, there are also many achievements, notably "Sino-Vietnamese dictionary" by Dao Duy Anh, this is a specialized dictionary of in Vietnamese. Also, when studying the history of Vietnamese phonetics, Henri Maspero first mentioned Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation problems. At this stage, we arrange in chapter3.In1945, after Vietnam got independence, along with the development of Vietnamese linguistics, researchers in and out Vietnam also promoted the comprehensive study of Vietnamese vocabulary, especially original Chinese words, and won many great achievements. Because there are lots of documents and materials in this period, we split into7topics to learn about the history of their research. In addition, to ensure a balance between the chapters, we divide this period into two chapters: Chapter4:Thematic Study of original Chinese in modern Vietnamese,(including:compiling dictionaries; researching the process of forming and development of the original Chinese words, Research on Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation). Chapter5:Thematic Study of original Chinese words in modern Vietnamese (including:structural study and classification of Chinese origin; study semantics of original Chinese words; study teaching methods of original Chinese words; research and application of Chinese origin).The concluding section summarizes the existed achievements and points in the study of original Chinese words in Vietnamese, which offer prospects for studying this problem later.
