Sino-Vietnamese words is the product of long-term language exposure of Chinese and Vietnamese,is an integral part of the Vietnamese language a special language in Vietnamese.Researchers pointed out that, after the arrival of medieval Chinese in Vietnam,it was influenced by Vietnamese language and culture, phonetics, structure, grammar, semantics, pragmatics. The thesis takes the Sino-Vietnamese words in Vietnamese folk songs to examine those changes.Vietnamese folk songs is a typical form of Vietnamese oral literature. It has diverse contents, rich themes and specific forms, and is a symbol of Vietnamese culture.Sino-Vietnamese words appear a lot in the folk songs,in "Treasure of Vietnamese folk songs",Sino-Vietnamese words appear in 12,628 articles(78.4%).Researching Sino-Vietnamese words in folk songs helps us point out the variations of SinoVietnamese words, and the laws of such changes,at the same time help us see the role of Sino-Vietnamese words in folk songs and explain why Sino-Vietnamese words are a special language in Vietnamese. In terms of phonetics, after the introduction of medieval Chinese phonetics into Vietnam, there appeared changes, those changes reflected in consonants, rhymes and tones, this change is not happening evenly, therefore, the process of medieval Chinese phonetic language development into the current Sino-Vietnamese made SinoVietnamese phonetics have some variations. The local Sino-Vietnamese sound and the Vietnamese-Sino-Vietnamese sound are both traces of this transformation. These traces of this transformation demonstrate the influence of Cantonese on Vietnamese. In terms of word structure, after being imported into Vietnam, the Chinese vocabulary is governed by the laws of Vietnamese, which made Chinese vocabulary have some changes. These changes are reflected in the level of Vietnameseization,at lower level is the change of Sino-Vietnamese factor and word order,a high level is to use Sino-Vietnamese prefixes arranged by Chinese or Vietnamese grammar to form new words.Sino-Vietnamese word structure is not fixed, but it varies depending on Vietnamese culture,Vietnamese internal rules and requirements of folk songs. In terms of meaning, after the Chinese language was imported into Vietnam, its semantics was changed. The cause of this change is due to cultural differences, synonyms in Vietnamese. This change is reflected in the narrowed or modified meaning of SinoVietnamese words,at the same time changing its meaningful nuances. The new way of meaning creation is lexical metaphor and lexical metonymy,in addition, the social context and error in interpretation is one of meaning creation way.The Sino-Vietnamese word still preserves its symbolic meaning in Chinese but it is often used to represent good things. The reason of Vietnamese folk songs use Sino-Vietnamese words are: China's economic, political and social influence to Vietnam, the influence of Chinese Literature on Vietnamese folk songs, the rhetorical and pragmatical values of Sino-Vietnamese words.Sino-Vietnamese words increase the generality, function, solemnity and elegance of Vietnamese folk songs, and represents the principle of politeness and connotations for Vietnamese folk songs. This thesis studies the changes in phonetics, structure, meaning, rhetoric and pragmatics of SinoVietnamese words in Vietnamese folk songs, contributing to making new arguments, adding some shortcomings of old theory.
