After the global financial crisis in2008, manufacturing industry has led theeconomy revival of the world. Its tendency to reflux to developed economies hasemerged. Main economies of the world turn to technological innovation and coretechnology R&D for competence through increasing their scientific and technicalR&D investment. Informationization and intellectualization have shaped the modernglobal manufacturing industry competition Chinese manufacturing enterprises areconfronting. The restriction of resources and environment is another conundrumChinese manufacturing enterprises have to overcome. Consequently the mostimportant challenge that Chinese enterprises confront is how to enhance theirtechnological capabilities and innovation capabilities.Quasi-biotic attributes and rules in knowledge developing process have beenstudied on the theoretical groundwork of knowledge fermenting model. Concept ofknowledge genes and knowledge organisms has been introduced to demonstrate themicro-mechanism of knowledge development. The thinking model of knowledgedevelopment based on biological human brains has been proposed and its developingprocess has been studied from the perspective of knowledge genes which has beenrecognized as the quasi-biotic process of knowledge development. Organizational andpersonal knowledge development was investigated using the model proposed assupplements to the quasi-biotic theory of knowledge development. The quasi-biotictheory of knowledge development has been applied to demonstrate the technologicalcapability development of Chinese manufacturing enterprises. The knowledge matrixof manufacturing enterprise technological development evaluation has been presentedcombining four knowledge elements and the knowledge activity system in enterprises’technological capability development identified using quasi-biotic theory ofknowledge development. The research commits to contributions as follows: firstly, exploration ofquasi-biotic attributes and rules of knowledge development from personal, organisationsal and social perspective; proposed the functioning mechanism ofknowledge genes and the quasi-biotic theory of knowledge development with thinkingmodel and process of knowledge development for the first time; secondly, decomposition of manufacturing enterprises’ technological capability developing activities through the new perspective of knowledge genes and identified theknowledge activities and knowledge carriers in the developing process in order toillustrate the technological capability developing path and mechanism viaorganizational knowledge development; thirdly, proposed the knowledge matrix oftechnological capability development evaluation to differentiate the effects of each ofthe four knowledge growth factors in each expression of technological capabilitydevelopment and applied the matrix in field research.
