"Language Contact" is a common phenomenon in the development of human language.Language contact is one of the original driving forces behind language evolution and development.Different languages do not come into contact with each other on their own, but they communicate through the use of intermediaries, through written or oral mutual contacts. The most common result of these contacts is the mutual borrowing of words. This can also result in the mutual infiltration of language elements and grammar,thereby changing the pronunciation and grammatical structure of a language. Contacts between languages are carried out by oral interaction and written translation,which involve the three-tiered structure of pronunciation, vocabulary, and grammar.Vietnam and China are geographically and culturally interconnected. From ancient times the two countries have had a close relationship and a long-standing tradition of friendship. Precisely when the Chinese and Vietnamese people -- and languages -- began to contact and interact is a historical discipline that is yet to be fully investigated. In Vietnam Chinese characters were used as the official writing system for millennia. All facets of society -- politics, foreign relations, economics, history,official examinations, administration, etc... -- employed the use of Chinese characters. As a result of the process of contact between the two languages, the Vietnamese language was greatly influenced by the Chinese language. The Chinese linguist Mr. Wang Li estimates that 60% of Vietnamese words are of Chinese origin. These words are called "Sino-Vietnamese Words" and are the result of contacts between the Chinese and Vietnamese languages.In the second chapter this thesis will introduce the connection between Vietnamese and Chinese languages to allow students and teachers to see how Sino-Vietnamese words make up a very important, as well as complex, part of the Vietnamese language. As such, for Vietnamese people,especially those who want to study or understand Chinese, they must grasp the words that are borrowed from Chinese, or Sino-Vietnamese Words. The written language used by Vietnamese today is made up of Latin letters, but every Vietnamese will study a course on Sino-Vietnamese words in middle school. This is a relatively difficult course for most Vietnamese students. Throughout life,people studying their mother tongue will follow society and have the habit of learning from people around them. They will not consider the original meaning or origin of words. For many Vietnamese,learning Sino-Vietnamese words is like studying a foreign language.The third chapter of this thesis employs the methods of comparison, categorization, analysis, and example. Here we will use 648 Sino-Vietnamese disyllable verbs included in Vietnamese-ChineseDictionary, by Ha Than,Trinh Ngoa Long, Chu Phuc Dan, Vyong Duc Luan, published in 2002 by Xian Gang Press. These verbs will serve as a "language repository" that will be categorized, and we will look at the corresponding disyllable verbs in modern Chinese. From the perspective of similar time periods, we will research limited comparisons and analyze the portions that, during language transfer,remained the same,changed, or adapted in nature. We will point out the differences in meaning between these words and corresponding disyllable verbs in modern Chinese, and we will find the reasons behind these differences. On this basis, we will see how the contacts and connections between Sino-Vietnamese and Chinese disyllable verbs have effected the study of Vietnamese and Chinese.Upon investigation of Chinese disyllable verbs beginning with the letters "A' to "D",60.8%retained their original meaning after the transfer to Vietnamese, while 6.2% of these verbs did not maintain their original meaning after the transfer. 33% of these verbs were created for language contacts with social influences according to the habits of the Vietnamese people.In the fourth chapter, we from the perspective of translation to understand the Chinese translation of sino-VietNammesedouble-syllableverbs. This chapter briefly summarizes the concepts and perspectives of "translation" in language. From the description of Chinese and Vietnamese translation process and achievement. Then the main content is to illustrate the analysis of the Chinese Vietnamese word "double syllable verb translation style. Each example in this chapter are from Vietnam and Chinese literary works or newspaper sentences for example analysis, comparative analysis withChinese corresponding. Chinese translation of Sino Vietnamese-double-syllableverbs to grasp from three aspects: the first is the analysis of the first set of reserved transfer (completely corresponding) translation features, second is the analysis of second groups of variants transfer (part corresponding) translation features, third is the analysis of third group of habit transfer (non corresponding) translation features. Finally, this chapter puts forward suggestions for teachers and students and teaching materials.In summary, this thesis is directed toward Vietnamese scholars studying the Chinese language. It is hoped that, by investigation of Sino-Vietnamese and modern Chinese disyllable verbs, Vietnamese students of Chinese will gain a deeper understanding of Sino-Vietnamese. It is also hoped that the process of contacts between these two languages can enable a more accurate use of Sino-Vietnamese verbs, assisting Vietnamese students of Chinese to use Sino-Vietnamese words more accurately when speaking and translating. The hope is that when students meet with disyllable words they will be able to deal with the mistake of using Sino-Vietnamese pronunciation to convert into Chinese disyllable verbs. The result of this research can be used for reference in the editing of Vietnamese-Chinese dictionaries. This thesis truly hopes that the result of the research and comparison of Sino-Vietnamese and Chinese disyllable verbs can be used in - and raise the quality of - the teaching and study of Sino-Vietnamese. The research direction and goal can be expanded to include nouns, adjectives,pronouns, empty words, etc... to make Vietnamese-Chinese dictionaries more comprehensive.
