Sinhala is the Indo-European language and it is derived from Sanskrit and Pali.Therefore,Sinhala has its inflection,which is similar to Sanskrit and Pali.This term is applied to the combination of subject,object and predicate in Sinhala,which represents a difference from Chinese.Chinese belongs to the Sino-Tibetan language family.There is no inflection of words in the Chinese language,So,Chinese words seem constant,no need to put suffix to a word to make sentence.However,when it needs to signify exact meaning of a sentence,it adds corresponding words before or after the emphasized word.When studying and teaching Chinese,it can be discovered that the Chinese prepositions is one of the most difficult grammatical points of the Chinese language.There are many previous researches that have been conducted in the field of Chinese prepositions.However,the corresponding expressions of Chinese prepositions in Sinhala have not yet been studied.As an analytic language,Modem Chinese share quite many differences between the Sinhala,among which the richness of Prepositions is one of the biggest one.As we know,modern Chinese is a language which lacks of significant grammatical markers,the expressions of the syntagmatic relations rely mainly on the word order change and the empty words.Prepositions in particular,on one hand take the place of the case to show the syntagmatic relations of the sentence,and on the other hand,Play the same role of the ease of time in modern Sinhala.Therefore,taking the contrastive analysis between basic space prepositions of Chinese and the basic case particles of Sinhala could help us to figure out the similarities and differences of the two languages.This article focus on the "A contrastive analysis between the Chinese basic space prepositions and the corresponding expressions in Sinhala Language",aiming at exploring the relationship between the two languages in the aspect of expressing the basic space relation.By analyzing the 9 basic space prepositions "zai,dao,cong,zi,you,li,xiang,wang,chao" we tried to figure out the corresponding expressions of them in modem Sinhala language.Based on the basic conclusions of this article,we also tried to summarize some typological features of the two languages in the human space expression system.It concludes that although lacking grammatical markers,Chinese space prepositions to some extent play the role of the ease markers exist in Sinhala and some other languages.Carrying on the very kind of comparative analysis this article could help the students who want to acquire Chinese to form a better understanding of the basic space prepositions in Chinese,and at the same time,to provide some useful ideas for teaching Chinese as a foreign language.
