Economic globalization and regional integration has become an important trend and characteristics of the development of the world economy, the evolution of contemporary industrial structure has also changed from the national natural resources and manufacturing industry to the regional information resources and modern service industry. The regional industrial structure evolution deepens international division of labor system and also influences different division status of national industrial upgrading effect. Therefore, the internationalization of the industrial structure has become the focus of the academic circles. With the long-term downturn in the Japanese economy and the outbreak of the Asian financial crisis, the “flying geese pattern” evolution of regional industrial structure in East Asian is gradually declining. Especially, the rise of Chinese economy not only rebuilds the international division system in East Asia, it also leads to essential changes in evolution of the regional industrial structure. Therefore, it is important to analysis the trend and correlation mechanism of regional industrial structure evolution of East Asia systematically, grasp the changes of the international division of labor in East Asia and understand Chinese industrial upgrading effect of manufacturing regional industrial structure evolution of East Asia under the new situation. Based on the industrial structure, the industrial division of labor and international production network theory and using the input-output and econometric method, this paper explore regional industrial structure evolution trend in East Asia and the basic correlative mechanism, measure the value distribution of intra-regional trade in East Asia, outline the regional industrial division pattern in East Asia, reveal the upgrading effect of China's manufacturing industry in the evolution of regional industrial structure in East Asia and provide a reference for China's manufacturing industry in the economic development of the new normal adjustment of industrial structure and industrial upgrading strategy. This paper is divided into 7 chapters, which the specific structure are as follows:Chapter 1 is the introduction. It elaborates the research background and the significance of this study, reviews the related research on the regional industrial structure and industrial upgrading in domestic and abroad are reviewed in this paper, introduces the research framework, research contents, research methods, and explains the data used in this paper.Chapter 2 is the related theoretical overview. This chapter is the theoretical basis for the full text analysis, which elaborates the industrial structure, industrial correlation, industrial division of labor and international production network and other related theories.Chapter 3 analyzes the trend of industrial structure evolution of the East Asian. First, this chapter introduces the industrial structure evolution history of East Asian countries and regions which are relatively independent, and compare the similarity and difference of industrial structure evolution in various countries and regions. Then, it analyzes the changing trend of regional industrial structure evolution in East Asia as a whole, reveals the evolution rules, which is interrelated and interdependent in the regional industrial structure in East Asia. On this basis, it makes further analysis of the causes of the overall development of the regional industrial structure in East Asia. Finally, it makes the empirical analysis of the basic mechanism of regional industrial structure evolution in East Asia from trade and investment two aspects, reveals the role of the commodity trade and international investment in promoting the evolution of regional industrial structure in East Asia.Chapter 4 analyses correlated relation of the evolution of the industrial structure in East Asia. This chapter spreads directly from two aspects which are association effect and spread effect of industry and make dynamic analysis and static comparison on association of East Asian regional industrial structure evolution. Firstly, it introduces the analysis tools of East Asia regional industrial association, which is Asian International Input-Output table, and describes latest Asian international input output table(2005) simplified form and equilibrium relationship which published in 2013. Secondly, using the data of Asian international input-output table and constructing index system of intermediate demand rate and investment rate, it analyzes the directed correlative effect of the regional industrial structure in East Asia from the two aspects, which are the whole and the national aspects respectively. The results showed that the direct relation of industrial structure is deepening among the East Asian countries and regions. Japan still plays an important role in East Asia during the evolution of industrial structure, but the trend gradually is weakened. The role of countries in emerging market, such as China, is strengthening and the evolution of regional industrial structure in East Asia is no longer confined to developed countries, but it gradually become endogenous and diversified. Subsequently, from two perspectives induced by the backward industrial association and the production of final demand and the deep inside of the industry, it analyses and compares the spread effect of East Asian regional industry. The results showed that in the East Asian countries and regions, backward linkage effect of China industry reflects leading role and the driving role to regional industrial development in East Asia is obvious. Among different industries, the backward linkages effects of manufacturing industry are the largest, the correlation effect is enhanced among internal capital of manufacturing industry and technology intensive manufacturing industry. The final demand in the developed countries such as the United States, which is out of the regions, and Japan, which inside the regions, have a large productive induced effect to East Asia region, and the induced effects of Chinese final demand are constantly pursuing the United States and Japan, which mainly is the internal induce. Manufacturing industry is the final demand induced industry in highest degree, in which light industry induce internal production, heavy industry induce external production.Chapter 5 is about East Asian regional industrial structure evolution and the change of the pattern of international division of labor. This chapter is based on the international division of labor, and analyzes the regional industrial structure evolution from East Asian trade using the value added method in further. First, it describes the trade value distribution mechanism of industrial structure under the condition of the internationalization and it clarifies the influence of trade value distribution on the position of international division of labor and the correlation of international industrial structure. Secondly, using structural decomposition technique the Asian International Input-Output table system, it divided the export trade value of the major economies in the East Asian region into four parts, which are domestic value, the domestic value of re-imported, East Asia value and the value of intermediate product of other regions, and separately compare the export value and origin of the economies from the whole and industry of two aspects. The results show that the domestic values which are created by East Asian economies are universally dropped, but the transferred East Asian values continuously rise. The United States and Japan are still dominant in the source of export value, which its share is gradually decreased, while the content of intermediate product value of China is increasing. Service industry and manufacturing industry has become a major industry for trade value transfer, service industry has formed regional sharing, but hierarchical division of manufacturing industry is obvious, developed economies still occupied value transfer of middle or high technology manufacturing industry and developing countries occupied value transfer of middle or low technology manufacturing industry. Then, based on the export trade value decomposition and using the vertical specialization index, the division status within the region and changing trend of manufacturing industry of East Asian economy and manufacturing industry were measured. The results showed that Japan still occupy the top in the international division system of East Asian region labor and specialized in production of high value-added products. Korea, Singapore, Chinese Taiwan and other newly industrialized countries and regions mainly engaged in the production of high value-added sectors. Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines and Thailand and other ASEAN mainly specialized in the production link of low added value. Due to late started participation in the international division of labor, by the end of 2005, China only engaged in product processing and assembles, which is at the low position in value-added production, but the trend towards the value chain of high-end is significantly accelerated. Finally, according to the change of domain of international division of labor structure, it is pointed out that the trend of polarization possibly appears in the East Asian.Chapter 6 analyzes the manufacturing industrial upgrading of China under the evolution of the industrial structure of the East Asian. This chapter is based on the perspective of international production network, and using China input-output table and the United Nations commodity trade database, upgrading effect of China's manufacturing industry is analyzed under the evolution of East Asia regional industrial structure. Firstly, under the premise of the basic connotation of moderate into and over into the international production network, through trust, information transfer and joint problem solving three aspects, the influence mechanism of the manufacturing industry to the international production network on industrial upgrading is explained. Secondly, using Chinese input-output table and the United Nations commodity trade statistics database and related data, the integration degree of China's manufacturing industry into East Asian production networks and the upgrading of the industrial conditions were calculated, the results show that from 2002 to 2012, the integration degree of Chinese manufacturing into the East Asian production network experienced fluctuation which rises at first then decrease. There are some differences in the degree of integration within manufacturing industry, in which labor intensive industries are relatively low and capital and technology intensive industries is higher. Then, using the related indicators and the data, the upgrading of inter industry and intra industry in China's manufacturing sector is measured during 2002 to 2012. The results show that the manufacturing industry upgrading and intra industry upgrading of Chinese manufacturing have obvious effect in this period, it mainly presented that the labor intensive manufacturing industry decreased greatly, while capital intensive and capital and technology intensive manufacturing industry increased greatly, the net value added ratio of most of the manufacturing industry maintain the upward trend, which concentrated on the capital intensive and capital and technology intensive industries and it achieve the capacity jump from low value-added to high value-added within industry. Finally, adding the econometric model and integrating with the production network in East Asia, the influence of Chinese manufacturing industry upgrading is tested empirically, the regression results show that the integration with East Asian production networks has significant positive role in promoting the overall and internal upgrade of Chinese manufacturing industry, but there are significant different upgrading effect to different factors intensive industry, which is significant in the capital intensive and labor intensive manufacturing industry and it is not significant in capital and technology intensive manufacturing industry.Chapter 7 is the main conclusions and suggestions. This chapter summarizes and concludes the full content, and puts forward some appropriate countermeasures and suggestions for the upgrading of China's manufacturing industry.
