In recent years,the study of the Hui community around the country has been being the hot spot of the domestic research on the hui nationality,which includes the study of traditional Hui community and new Hui community since the Reform and Opening up.Choosing the guilin urban Hui gathering area as the field point,using the theory and methods of history,anthropology,by tracing the history of the guilin Hui community,and investigating the current situation,this dissertation trys to reveal the development process of guilin Hui community and its cultural changes.Guilin Hui community originated from the Yuan Dynasty,developed in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,stablized in the Republic of China,reconstructed after the founding of the PRC.From the Ming and Qing Dynasties,a mass of Hui immigrated into Guangxi,built temples and communities one after another,formed the pattern of "nine temples and seven communities" up to the Republic of China.However,in the dramatic social changes,the changes of the constituent elements of Hui,"temple,community,market,culture" eventually led to the changes of guilin Hui community.The construction of the mosque was an important symbol of the forming of Hui community,and was more important basis to maintain cohesion.In the situation of the Hui peoples dispersing,market slumping,cultural declining,the geographic boundaries of Hui community increasingly blurred,the mosques became the only mark of the former Guilin Hui community and its function was undergoing profound change.As immigrants Guilin Hui not only relied on common religious beliefs,forming a religious community,but also relied on common kinship,forming the different clan in the Guilin Hui community,which thus became the greater cells of Hui community,after family.Guilin Hui expressd their Islamic faith by clan symbol(such as family tree,ancestral temple,hall,etc.),bequeath islam culture by clan activities.In the polymerization and disvrete of clan,Guilin Hui community also evolved from prosperity to decline.The previous wars since the Republic of China and political movement after the founding of the PRC,led the clan organization in Hui community gradually disappeared.Since the 1990s,parts of the clan organization could be reconstructed one after another,but they are facing the realistic predicament,such as clansman living in scattered,lack of funds,damaged ancestral temple,etc.Mosque education,which appeared in Guilin Hui community from the Qing Dynasty,was an important way to bequeath islam culture.But the appearance of the gentry in GuilinHui community,indicate that part of enlightened and well-heeled Hui families attached importance to the study of Han culture in Qing Dynasty.In Daoguang period in Qing Dynasty,some Hui peoples opened a private school in the Hui community and teached Hui children to learn Han culture.Since the Republic of China,with the rise of the New Culture Movement and Chengda normal school moved to Guilin,new Hui nationality education,adult education,the education of women,and Muslim women school gradually developed in Guilin Hui community.Since the founding of the PRC,due to the exit of the religion course from the national education system,the reformation and the destruction of the "Cultural revolution"the religious education in Guilin Hui community gradually declined.At present,the changes of fasti festivals and life rites,reflect the current situation in the discrete edge of Guilin Hui community.After the Reform and Opening up,in Guilin Hui community,the flow Muslim increasing,and the communication and interaction between different Muslim ethnic group,made the development and challenges of Guilin Hui community to coexist.There are seven parts in this dissertation:The first chapter summarizes the development process of Guilin Hui community,and discusses the formation of Guilin Hui community from population,economic and cultural factors,and analyzes the changes of Guilin Hui community in the distribution pattern,living mode,living mode,and its reasons.The second chapter introduces the creation,distribution,historical evolution and the function changes of the mosque after the founding of the PRC.The third chapter discusses the formation process of the clan in Guilin Hui community since the Qing Dynasty,analyzes the characteristics of the clan of Guilin Hui since the formation,describes the historical facts that it once disappeared after it underwent the most danger of war and all past political movement,the reconstruction and facing practical difficulties of the clan.The fourth chapter discusses the mosque education of Guilin Hui community in the Qing Dynasty,the new Hui nationality education in the Republic of China,the effect of Chengda normal school moved to Guilin on basic education,adult and female education,and the development of the national education in the Hui community since the founding of the PRC.The fifth chapter describes the current situation of Guilin Hui community in the important calendrical rites(such as Ramadan,Eid al-Fitr,Corban Festival,Spring Festival,etc.),discusses the change of major lifecycle ritual of Guilin Hui(such as Birth rite,Naming Ceremony,circumcision,weddings,etc).The sixth chapter introduces the sources of Guilin flow Muslims,and its distribution,occupation characteristics,secular and religious life,etc.since the Reform and Opening up,and analyzes its positive influence on Guilin Hui community and realistic dilemma.The seventh chapter is the conclusion part of the full dissertation,summarizes and comprehensive analysis the development of Guilin Hui community since the Qing Dynasity.
