Town and village are the two closely related administrative regions in the urban-rural system involved in the transformation because they are geographic neighbors, have close business connections and share resources. In the process of driving overall urban-rural development and promoting coordinated regional development,town-village relationship is a vital structural element.Whether its transformation direction can comply with the regional development trend and meet their own development requirements concerns whether the town and the village can grow in a sustainable way and whether the concrete goal of overall urban-rural development can be realized efficiently and also matters whether the endogenous driving force of growth and potential of the town and the village are sustainable. With progress of urbanization, significant structural changes of town-village relationship have already taken place, especially in metropolitan regions. The phenomenon of village elements flowing cross small towns has become increasingly obvious and complicated. As a result, the town-village relationship gradually decomposes, which has brought complicated influence on the towns and villages themselves and the entire region and also the problems of low quality and low efficiency in many aspects. However, the existing studies on development of towns and villages in metropolitan regions show a time lag considering “scale orientation” and mostly focus on downtown development. Therefore,it’s an important issue faced by Chinese metropolitan regions and towns and villages in their development to optimize town-village relationship through planning strategy guidance and relevant technical measures, make development foundations of towns and villages comply with transformation of division of work of the entire metropolitan regions and realize sustained urban-rural development in metropolitan regions and coordinated and efficient regional progress.Focusing on the structural features of town-village relationship in the aspects of space and functions, this thesis conducted a systematic study of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions from the basic issues of decomposition and reconstruction of townvillage relationship, theoretical research, model construction to empirical study.(1)This thesis firstly summarized the features and presentations of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions during decomposition.By making a diachronic analysis of town-village relationship,in light of the three dimensions of architectural features under Piaget’s structuralism, the author worked out the general features of decomposition of townvillage relationship in metropolitan regions, namely breaking the closed town an village space, decomposing the town and village structures and eliminating centrality of the town and village structures. Then, the author took Wuhan City as an example and made detailed presentations of decomposition of town-village relationship from the perspectives of space and functions. The spatial features of decomposition are change of the structure and disperse of elements, while the functional features are disruption town-village community speaking of the economy and weakening of center radiation speaking of public services.(2)Based on the analysis of features of decomposition of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions,in the second part, the author mainly discussed the problems and causes of decomposition. He found that influenced by “external effects” and “boundary constraints”,decomposition of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions will on the one hand cause low-quality rural urbanization and structural inefficiency of economy development, and on the other hand result in functional decrease of the towns and villages, waste of resources, unmatched supply and demand of public services and low efficiency. Therefore,in response to the call of coordinated development of the entire region, the author suggested that in the processing of guiding transformation of town-village relationship, integrating the spatial structure of town and village into the spatial network of the metropolitan region and coordinating the functional structure of town and village with functional division of the metropolitan region as the primary goal.Villages and towns shall be guided to actively adapt to the mechanism of the metropolitan region instead of getting out of the track of development. The final target is to stabilize the economic, social, ecological and security functions of the basic administrative regions of the metropolitan regions.(3)The third part gave a scientific and systematic theoretical explanation of decomposition of town-village relationship in light of the complex adaptive system(CAS).Though obvious inadaptability, incompatibility and unsustainability have already been found during decomposition of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions, there are still strong rationality, inevitability and tendency involved in this cause and also differentiation from the spatial development pattern of the metropolitan regions. Therefore, the purpose of theoretical explanation is to judge whether decomposition of town-village relationship is rational and to find the goal of decomposition. This thesis,in light of CAS,constructed the model of “stimulus-response” and “structure-adaption” for the structural change of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions from two perspectives, namely adaptive agent and systematic evolution. The author found that rationality of decomposition of town-village relationship can be judged from its “adaptability”,which is a key mechanism of decomposition of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions.Only the town-village relation with relatively strong “adaptability” will have healthy, rational and sustainable structural change and trend. Moreover, the final target of adaptability reconstruction of town-village relationship in metropolitan regions is to help villages and towns play greater roles in regional economic development and realize coordinated and sustainable development of themselves and the entire region by raising their adaptability during structural change of town-village relationship.(4)The fourth part is model construction and quantitative calculation.Taking Wuhan as an example, the author made quantitative calculation of “adaptability” to the change of town-village relationship in light of fitness landscape theory and NK Model. The author calculated the adaptability of the 58 town-village relations in Wuhan, and further revealed the role of adaptability enhancement route to judge the type of decomposition of the townvillage relationship based on NK Model. He found that the spatial distribution of the adaptability of decomposition of the town-village relationship basically matches spatial pattern of the metropolitan region, which demonstrated that decomposition of town-village relationship in a metropolitan region is closely related to the macro development structure of the region and proved that decomposition shall follow the structural rule of development of the entire region and will need differential and accurate guidance.(5)In the fifth part, the author made an empirical study based on the above quantitative calculation.According to the results of the types of adaptability reconstruction of townvillage relations judged by NK Model, the author presented the planning strategies on adaptability reconstruction for each type.Speaking of adaptability reconstruction,he classified the town-village relations in Wuhan into three types, namely crosswise linked type,fixed-core and strong sides type and network extension type.Furthermore, according to the two levels of explanation on the structural change of town-village relationship under CAS theory, the author presented the planning guidance strategies for each type, including the strategy guiding the town-village relationship to participate in regional division of work and the planning strategy for internal functional structure and spatial framework reconstruction of town-village relationship in order to offer reference on optimizing townvillage relationship and consolidating the role of town-village relationship in urban-rural coordination and economic development of the metropolitan regions and to finally realize the goal of healthy, coordinated and sustainable development of the entire metropolitan regions. |
