Learning Orientation, Entrepreneurial Bricolage And International Performance Of International New Ventures

Under the background of the gradual improvement of China's new open economic system and the mass entrepreneurship and innovation is still growing,China has a growing number of new ventures that value learning gain significant competitive advantages by quickly entering the international market through overcoming resource constrains,that is the phenomenon of international new ventures.This phenomenon reflects two important characteristics of international new ventures are learning orientation and resource constrains.Although young businesses often lack resources,the unique mix of learning orientation and strategy allows international new ventures to succeed in a diversified international arena.Therefore,the research of the internal mechanism and boundary conditions of learning orientation's impact on the performance of international new ventures will help Chinese new ventures to improve their performance and implement the policy of " increase support for the export of small,medium and micro businesses " proposed in the 13 th Five-Year Plan and achieve the strategic goals of "cultivating world-class enterprises with global competitiveness" proposed in the report of the Nineteenth National Congress of the Communist Party of China and "promoting the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises" proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.The core research issue of this paper is "How does learning orientation affect the international performance of international new ventures?".Based on the literature review,this paper proposes a conceptual model with environmental dynamics and internationalization as moderating variables,learning orientation as independent variable,entrepreneurship bricolage as mediating variable and international performance as dependent variables,and puts forward corresponding research hypotheses.Based on the questionnaire data of 210 international new ventures in China,this paper employs the methods of hierarchical regression analysis and structural equation model analysis to test the research hypothesis.The main conclusions are as follows:(1)The three dimensions of learning orientation--learning commitment,shared vision and open mindedness--have significant positive effects on the financial performance,operational performance and overall effectiveness performance of international new ventures,but the different dimensions of learning orientation have different effects on the international performance of international new ventures.(2)Entrepreneurial bricolage plays a mediating role between learning orientation and international performance of international new ventures.Specifically,entrepreneurial bricolage plays a part mediating role between learning commitment and international performance of international new ventures(including financial performance,operational performance and overall effectiveness performance);entrepreneurial bricolage plays a part mediating role between shared vision and international performance of international new ventures(including financial performance,operational performance and overall effectiveness performance).Entrepreneurial bricolage plays a part mediating role between open mindedness and international performance of international new ventures(including financial performance,operational performance and overall effectiveness performance).(3)Environmental dynamism significantly positively moderates the relationship between learning orientation and entrepreneurial bricolage,and obtains the opposite result from the original research hypothesis: degree of internationalization negatively moderates the relationship between entrepreneurial bricolage and international performance of international new ventures.The innovations and theoretical contributions of this study include:(1)By revealing that entrepreneurial bricolage plays an intermediary role between learning orientation and international performance of international new venture,which not only deepens our understanding of the influencing factors of international new ventures' performance,but also enriches our understanding of the intermediary mechanism of learning orientation influencing international new ventures' performance.(2)Empirical studies have been conducted to examine the impact of different dimensions of learning orientation on the different dimensions of international performance of international new ventures,which enriches the relevant research literature on learning orientation.(3)By revealing that entrepreneurial bricolage plays a mediating role between learning orientation and the international performance of international new ventures,which enriches the literature on the mediate mechanism of learning orientation affecting the international performance of international new ventures.This paper not only contributes to the research literature of international new ventures and entrepreneurial bricolage,but also enlightens the managers of enterprises to improve the international performance of international new ventures and provides decision-making reference for our government to achieve the strategic goals of promoting the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises.
