Abstract/Summary:
The equivalence principle replaces currents distributed in a volume by equivalent currents residing on the bounding surface. It also disassociates the current solutions in different regions. The work reported here exploits the equivalence principle to generate a domain decomposition algorithm for integral equation solvers. The equivalence principle algorithm encapsulates highly complex bodies by simple surfaces, thereby facilitating parallelization, solution reusability, and even improving matrix conditioning.;Conventional basis used to discretize the integral equations breaks down when an equivalence surface intercepts a current-carrying conductor. A tap basis scheme is proposed to accurately model the currents at the intersections to conserve the continuity and avoid charge singularities. Moreover, the multilevel fast multipole algorithm is used to accelerate the equivalence principle algorithm so that large multiscale problems can he solved efficiently.
