Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this study was to examine several psychological and sociodemographic variables as they relate to and predict exercise behavior. The psychological variables in order of predictive significance were: stage of change, task/scheduling self-efficacy, and specific/general locus of control. Data was collected from 95 University of Hawaii students ranging in age from 18 to 30 years old [55 female]. Correlation analyses found significant relatedness of the psychological variables to exercise behavior. Stepwise regression found significant predictors of exercise behavior from each psychological construct measured. Prediction significance was also found from the sociodemographic variable of sexual orientation; however, this particular finding should be interpreted with caution due to the limited variability obtained within this variable.
