This research comprises a case study of the implementation of Maximo, a computerized maintenance management system, examining its adaptability, usability, and profitability. The Maximo system discussed herein is one that General Motors Corporation wants to implement in all plants. Maximo has already been successfully implemented in several General Motors plants, but so far the implementation at General Motors Truck Product Center (GMTPC) has proved problematic. GMTPC employees have experienced frustration, inconvenience, and an increase in maintenance operating costs with Maximo. Since both General Motors and the United Auto Workers management support Maximo, successful implementation is critical. This case study seeks to determine what factors, cultural or otherwise, have led to this failure at GMTPC and how operation of that system may be salvaged.
