Abstract/Summary:
According to Senge (1990), an intelligent organization has a framework whereby the participants are continually discovering not only how their reality is created, but also how it can be modified. Those currently in the teaching profession take all their professional direction from an analysis of their own professional development. Le Boterf (2002) characterizes a professional as a person who can manage the complexities of the occupational act, who also understands the presence of multiple resources likely to be mobilized and combined. This means one is capable of casting a critical glance at what has been developed and to continue in the same vein, or modify one's way of acting.; This study fits in that approach in the way that it aims to clarify the resources used by the supervisor in the discussion following the observation of the student-teacher in the classroom. Although there are studies, already undertaken, that place an emphasis on the work of the supervisor during the teacher training program (Zeichner & Tabachnick, 1982; Zahorik, 1988; Lopez-Real, Stimpson & Bunton, 2001), the perspective from which the supervisor is seen as a trainer taking an active part in the professional development of the student teacher remains to be explored.; We were interested in exploring the resources used by the supervisor at the time of the interviews that occur after the observation of the student-teacher in the classroom, in the context of pre-service training, and more specifically, at the time of the practical experience. This study focuses on the supervisors working with the fourth-year students in the Bachelor program in secondary education, in the Faculty of Education at the University of Montreal. The conceptual framework which we used as our guide is the typology of resources suggested by Le Boterf (2002).; Methodology used in this research is based on content analysis. Seven university supervisors were interviewed. Findings show that it is possible to specify the resources which characterize the supervisors as professionals and trainers.
