Homeroom teachers' leadership styles and class management efficiency for junior college nursing students at one college in south Taiwan (China)

The study explores the relationship between homeroom teachers' leadership styles and class management efficiency in nursing majors at Tzu Hui Nursing College and probes into the influence of homeroom teachers' demography on their class leadership styles and class management efficiency. In order to complete the study successfully, the related theories and literature of homeroom teachers' leadership styles and class management were studied first and then a survey of homeroom teachers' class management using the efficiency index to search for suitable questionnaires in accordance with the research framework. The researcher use I the questionnaires from the original designer. The questionnaires were administrated and collected completely within one month. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS and the findings can be offered to the homeroom teachers of nursing departments, schools and the educational administrations.; The main findings are as follows: (1) In the aspect of leadership styles: (a) Management by intervention is used most in transactional leadership. (b) The leadership style of vision is used most frequently in transformational leadership. (c) Homeroom teachers who like to use both transactional leadership and transformational leadership account for 48% of this research, transactional leadership for 32%, and transformational leadership for 20%. (2) In the aspect of class management: (a) The mean of all items of class management efficiency are medium to high level except mean(M=2.37) of the item of communication between homeroom teachers and parents. (b) The mean of teaching quality is the highest in all items of class management efficiency. Otherwise, the mean of communication between homeroom teachers and parents are the lowest.
