This study addressed the integration of an Arts-based curriculum into a fifth grade classroom in rural Tennessee to improve students' engagement, comprehension, and retention of information. As a fifth grade-reading teacher, the researcher integrated arts-based activities into the reading and vocabulary lessons. The implementation of the activities occurred over a twelve-week period. The results indicated positive outcomes for students in the areas of engagement and comprehension. The retention component showed no measurable difference post treatment, suggesting the need for further research and study. |
