By the end of 2009, the rural land accounts for 94.7% of total land, and the villagers account for 53.4% of the total population in China. The development of the rural areas is becoming the key point in the future in China shown from the newest Twelfth Five-Year Plan, and so does the sustainable development of the village and the evaluation methodology for all research field. More study on, more the strange phonomena has been found that the villages would like fall back to the beginning after the assistance and salvage dispeared. How to transfer the support and assistance into the internal motive mechanics? How to unify the different disciplines with architectural discipline? Which kind of effective evaluation methodology should be choosed in the village research? How to establish the practising village evaluation index for sustainable development which is quite different from the city? The research begins from the thinking of the questions above. To solve multidiscipline problems both in theory and practice during the village research, the Entropy Theory has been introduced into architectural discipline as the newest approach to describe the degree of village system order. Based on the common view which the village is a huge and complex system, different disciplines can be connected with and unified into the concept of entropy which can be calculated and measured for the degree of village system order to solve the fuzziness, difference and disorder when intersecting. To address these issues, the Entropy Theory combining with the Self-organization Theory is applied into the study of the sustainable development of village system and comprehensive evaluation methodology. The principal aspects affecting the village system, which include the dissimilation of the factor itself, the connection between factors because of nonlinear motion and the openness level of the system, are linked with the entropy value to measure the degree of the self-organization and the sustainable development of village system. By the Entropy Theory and Self-organization Theory, the sustainable scenario and the guiding principle of planning and construction can help all the villages in China to the sustainable development with their own characteristics in the local carrying capacity. As the new thing in the modern Chinese architectural field, the comprehensive evaluation on sustainable development of the village system not only has no the related professional criterions or regulations, but also lack of the suitable evaluation methodology and systematic indicators. After the detailed analysis from the longitudinal composing, which emphasis on the difference from the city, as well as horizontal relationship between architectural environment sub-system and others, VEISD(the Village Evaluation Indicators of Sustainable Development)has been proposed in this paper based on the entropy evaluation method in a multilevel, dynamic, open, both qualitative and quantitative way. Being the reduction as the ultimate aim, the whole system entropy value of multilevel corresponding VEISD can be calculated after fixing the measures of assessment of bottom code, the multilevel weight coefficient by the entropy weight and Delphi method, mathematic model for the bottom entropy, synthetic model for multilevel entropy. Combining with other evaluation methods, the entropy evaluation methodology can be applied as the inspection of the village planning and the level of current village development, and also the recommendation of the village future.
